But people aren’t any happier. I think you could say, people generally are less happy.

People need to quit being so immoral and selfish.

They create their own unhappiness when their season of fun, debauchery, and selfish decisions comes to an end.

Finding purpose/love and a good family are the things people should focus on more.

Walking Towards The Future

Any time you walk west, you going into the future. So, what's the problem?

I've always struggled with this thought.

Depends. If people still reproduce at the same rates it could be a strain on resources but I think people would have children later in life, so the total amount of people would be less.

I just read about the International Date Line for the last 15 minutes and it’s all very confusing.

The international dateline is in the Chatham Island Dtandard Time and there’s actually a point each day where it’s 3 days at once and I might just not be smart enough to understand this.

My 16 year old son just got back from a week in Haiti doing volunteer work. Pre- trip he learned that Haiti was the poorest nation in this hemisphere.

When he got back I asked him what surprised him the most. He said everyone is so happy. Every where they went kids and adults were laughing and smiling and having a good time. He said it was everywhere. I guess a simpler life might just be a happier life.

So, um, what the frick is stopping you? Go out and live on the land. You don't need money to survive if you're willing to spend every waking moment making sure you don't starve when times are tough.

This will not be popular but what the hell...

Half the population never gets beyond safety, probably 90%+ never get beyond esteem. Perception, peer recognition and societal acceptance are the main drivers of people who do get beyond security, but it's a huge safety net they can't let go of.

We're bombarded with information to make us insecure

quote:

THE WORLD IS increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn’t very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. How do you get them to buy a new smartphone? By making them feel like they are being left behind. To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act. To be happy with your own non-upgraded existence. To be comfortable with our messy, human selves, would not be good for business.”
? Matt Haig

I think people mistake accumulating stuff as the road to happiness. In the end, most of us are just living someone else's idea of life and trying to live up to someone else's standards.

quote:

“There are thousands and thousands of people out there leading lives of quiet, screaming desperation, where they work long, hard hours at jobs they hate to enable them to buy things they don't need to impress people they don't like.” ? Nigel Marsh

100%, people are the worst. I'd be ok living with my wife and daughter in a cave with noone else for 100 miles.
