Volunteers are needed Oct. 9 for an active-shooter drill coordinated by the city of New Orleans at Audubon Zoo.
City officials said the drill will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the zoo. The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is looking for 200 volunteers to participate in the drill, which will test emergency response plans for an active shooter attack.
Volunteers will be assigned several roles to play in the tactical exercise. The roles include people who are wounded, deceased or separated from relatives. Some volunteers will role-play as children.
Officials said volunteers must be over the age of 18.
The drill will include simulated gunfire. Officials said the exercise could be beneficial for youth who are considering careers in public safety or emergency management.
Lunch and free parking will be provided, organizers said.

Sounded like a trap until I read that free parking was provided.

Hell that sounds fun.

How are they going to tell the simulated gunfire from the real gunfire in the rest of New Orleans?

I want to role play the over zealous redneck who open carries and believes shooting at bottles gives him the training to take down an active shooter.

Gonna pass on this one. Seems like an active shooter drill is sometimes tied to a real active shooting.

"Volunteers will spend their lunch break cleaning out the catch basins found at the zoo," according to Audubon Zoo spokesperson Rory Fonteneaux.

I hope the zoo is closed to regular patrons that day. Unless they want to be responsible for heart and panic attacks.

There is no way in hell that I would put myself where NOPD would control " simulated gunfire". What is that ? A recording.? Likely they will be using blanks. Would you trust those idiots shooting " blanks ". There has been more than one tragedy caused by " competent " people playing with guns.

Or get shot by non-involved patrons.

I don't think they're open on Mondays as it is.

I just natural assume I’m in an active shooter drill anytime I’m in NOLA.

My dad (security forces) recruited my brother to be a hostage during a terrorist training exercise at the base .
My brother was pumped to go. Came back pissed.
Apparently my dad took being the terrorist leader pretty seriously. Grabbed his book and threw it across the room, yelled at him, etc.
