Of course not, but people get interviews because of it. That ULL degree with a 3.5 GPA is gonna hold up real nice against a Harvard degree with the same GPA and curriculum.

As would one from LSU. It's like some of you don't read any of the thread and then make some rediculous statement. That's what's laughable here. What is true is if someone is reviewing two candidates with 3.5 gpa from ULL and LSU, they're going to interview them both if the only significant difference is the school name. It will come down to the applicants abilities to sell themselves and again the school name won't matter.

The argument isn't ULL versus Harvard. It's ULL versus LSU. Try to keep up.

That's actually almost exactly how it works. Schools change names to reflect a change in their focus or sphere of influence. ULL serves much more than just Southwest Louisiana now. They also have double the enrollment of the other UL designated school and 8x the endowment. Why would they not be a prime candidate for the name? And how does that affect any other school in Louisiana in a meaningful way?

Yeah of a bunch of people who think their louisiana flagship school degree is worth more than the paper it's printed on. Yeah it probably has helped some people get a job or at least an interview. To say you got a better job or got the job easier because you went to lsu is laughable at best for the typical person. If you're claiming your school name got you the job then you're probably an idiot with a shitty job. This whole conversation is like a comparison between two dollar stores....it's the same shite slapped with a different label.

I have degrees from both schools in PETE. I can’t vouch for the whole school, but the PETE program at ULL was laughably inferior to LSU’s. It was also reflected in the number of o&g operators who recruited students via on campus interviews at each school (only 2 at ULL vs 20+ at LSU).
The ULL Pete program was a borderline sham.

Not sure why anyone would hang their hat on the fact that they got a job because of the school they went to. That's actually pretty stupid.
They hang their hats on getting a degree from a better school. That’s not very stupid

Not the same as what is going on here.
People are bragging about getting jobs because of where they went to school. That has no bearing on whether they were actually the best candidate for the job, but insinuates that they only got the job because of the school they went to.

Why would you have the same degree from two schools? Can't compare graduate to undergraduate....the professors are typically not even the same for the different levels.
While I will say LSU does a better job of reaching out to get jobs for their Pete students, I don't know anyone from either school struggling to find a job.
Also, your claim that Pete lsu is superior to that of ull is your personal experience. The Pete student interns we've had in my office have done far superior work and knew their stuff hands down better than the lsu student interns. That's just my experience though. I definitely call bs on your claim that lsu is far superior. It is up to the student every time and has little to do with the actual school. Hell ull even does better in the petrobowl.

Can people stop bitching about and comparing the engineering programs between LSU and ULL? We get it, one of ULLs better programs is in engineering, and it rivals (or perhaps surpasses, I don’t know) LSUs. But that frankly means nothing.
Across the board, LSU is heads and tails above ULL. It always has been. And no, that doesn’t mean I’m claiming LSU to be a prestigious or elite institution. Frankly its average at best. But that puts ULL well, well below average.
