I don’t go through the Waco area often but made it a point today to take the detour to Mt Carmel. Not really a ton to see to the naked eye.
There’s a small chapel there now with memories posted on the walls. Some of the foundation to the original compound is still in place. I sat on the ‘pool’ and tried to meditate and look out as to what it may have been like.
The only thing that got under my skin were pictures of the FBI/ATF agents flexing and taking pictures over the ashes. I don’t care which side of the story you’re on, a lot of innocent people and kids died horrific deaths there.
Overall, humbling. Not worth going out of your way, but was a good visit driving thru.

Two things can be true at the same time: David Karesh was certifiable and the ATF were pieces of shite for how they went about that whole situation.

All could have been avoided by simply picking up David Koresh when he made his periodic trip into town. But no, they had to make it a dick measuring contest.

Went to that place years ago. Surprisingly small. Stopped at a roadside bar/grill for a brew and directions. Two little old ladies that owned the place said Koresh frequented the place, would often play guitar and sing impromptu shows. They couldn’t say a bad thing about him nor a good thing about the Feds.

It’s my recollection they didn’t have proof or cause of anything. They did eventually get a search warrant then got into a gun fight. Lot of mistakes made. Sad situation.

LE was fricking horrific, but also grown men shouldn’t be impregnating 14 year olds.

It's worse than that.
The ATF was on the chopping block. They deliberately escalated at every point to try and justify their own existence.
ETA: Really, that's an excellent reason to hate Koresh even more. There was a potential future where he was not a piece of shite, or OD'ed on some grunge tour, or got shot in a gun deal, the siege never happens, and the ATF just doesn't fricking exist at all anymore.

Yes. Nothing on site supports Koresh. Mostly just history, but yes. Several pictures hanging of FBI/ATF agent standing over the ashes literally flexing like they accomplished something.

I wish the Davidians had claymores and IED's.

Bill Clinton and his Atty General Janet "Butch" Reno named the siege on the compound Showtime - should tell you everything you need to know about the legitimacy of the attack

There was a lot of Clinton hate in the messaging

Janet Reno should've been charged with murder.

Would give her a run for her money.

It feels like this is the root of so many of our divides.
These national stories hit and we battle over good vs evil tropes when the truth is a lot of them are simply crazy meets crazy and we end up with a catastrophic outcome that reasonable people usually avoid with ease
We do not do well with “both sides messed up and lessons can be learned by everyone”
