If this guy was in the US, it more than likely would have been more than a dozen dead, two dozen injured.

You can still obtain a firearm in Australia, provided you aren't a felon. You just have to have a place to store it.
Hell, the much ballyhooed gun buyback only garnered a third of the targeted guns. . .
Not to mention the BOOMING black market for guns.
If this guy wanted a gun to increase the body count, he easily could have had one.
It is a common trend with black Muslims in Europe, Asia, and Australia to use knives for the marginal terror aspect.
The same reasons ISIS beheads, rather than shoots.
