I've enjoyed the vintage car reviews that have been posted on here lately, so here's another.

Slow as hell, but damn that is a beautiful machine built like a tank.

I have a '77 that just went over 700,000 miles, and it's not stopping anytime soon. I'm considering buying a low mileage one to maintain as a back-up if this one ever poops out on me.

I was hoping you'd post in here, I remember you talking about your old MB diesel, but for some reason I thought you had a 300TD wagon.

That's amazing about yours. You just do routine preventive maintenance?

Pretty much. I have 'my guy' take a look at it every 15 or 20 thousand miles to make sure there isn't anything I'm missing. That's what I love about old, well-built cars - if you take care of them, they can last forever. I would be scared shitless of having to do maintenance on a new C class or something.

Yeah they had a different methodology to occupant safety back in the day. Unfortunately the passengers were the ones that absorbed the force and the car comes out fairly unscathed.

It's much different today. I'm seeing what most would consider a "bad accident" with patients having minor to moderate injuries with most being single system.

Almost pulled the trigger on a late 80s diesel last night. Still negotiating.

10k for a 2 door g-wagen with 77k miles.

It needs a little work and has been passed over a bit. That makes me nervous.

Do you have a wrench monkey you trust to take a good look over?

Me too, I'd love a 1980 450SEL.

The Mercedes built in the late 70s to late 80s were some of the best cars ever built, but the 90s and early 00s were crap. Mercedes even came out and said so about the poor quality then.

It is 2k miles away.

Would love it for a daily driver eventually. Have a good friend that is a legit diesel mechanic too, and even committed to rebuilding the engine for beer if it comes down to it.

Just know absolutely nothing about them to even know where to start asking.

So, this is your everyday car that you constantly use? Man, that is crazy impressive.

Then you should definitely go for it. Even if it becomes too much of a headache for you if you sell it you could at least get your $10k back.

I don't know if you can answer this, but it is an import from Spain, but had been titled in Washington and Florida.

Is there any potential hangups?

Trying to post pics. It was on Bring a Trailer website.

If it's already been titled in the US twice it should be good as far as EPA restrictions go.

Do you know if it had a salvage title at anytime in the US?

The engine looks pretty clean in that one shot, is there a pic of the entire engine bay or undercarriage?

Find a good G-wagen board and ask about the seller and/or importer.

In Land Rover circles there are good people and bad. It doesn't guarantee anything but will go a long way to help prevent issues. Someone may even know this truck if it's traded hands a few times or been through a known specialty shop.

Asked for more. Will see if the seller delivers?

It's an individual.

Also, really hard to price these things. One board will say it is a steal and another says they are surprised for the price it is selling for.

I'm always surprised how people will recognize a defender that's been sold a few times over across states. It's a tight community and word travels pretty quick. Trucks that pop up on eBay too often get marked.
