When your vet has to start snatching teeth out of your dog's head, you will wish that you had spent that paltry $300.

it's really a dangerous situation, as they have to put the dog under, which can always go bad.

Luckily our vet has never mentioned it yet.

Surgery with any animal is always a risk, as it can be with humans

$250 is too high considering you can just get a new dog for cheaper

You probably just didn’t notice it. Bad breath? Rubbing their face on furniture? Gums grown over the teeth? Imagine having sensitivity or nerve issues and not being able to tell anyone.
They didn't have any of those signs. Plus, I took them to the vet regularly and none of them said anything about it. Two of the dogs lived 15 years and they were not little dogs.

Yep. My parents went through that with their pup. The second my vet recommended having my girl’s teeth cleaned I did it.

Plus my pup is too important to me to worry about dropping a few hundred here and there. Totally worth it.

This. No one forces you to get a dog. Part of being a good pet owner is caring for your dog’s health, which includes their dental health.

Also....think how much joy eating brings them. Imagine they can’t have that simple joy because it hurts for them to eat cause of poor dental health.

Quick Question:

What age did your vet recommend it? Ours hasn't mentioned it, and the dog looks to have clean teeth, but who knows, you can't see, if there are any issues on the inside of the teeth.

My dog is about 5.5 and the vet just recommended I bring her in for cleaning recently.

Its an upsell. None of the vets I brought my dogs to over the years mentioned it.

You also have to consider the breed of dog. Some breeds are more prone to dental issues.

Many of the smaller breeds are more prone to dental issues because their snouts are smaller. Teeth more likely to crowd which makes it easier for plague/tartar build up.

Breeds that are brachycephalic (smooshed face dogs like my pug) are even more prone to dental issues than other small dog breeds.

This is not the certain result of not having the teeth cleaned. A dog can have their teeth cleaned regularly and still have dental issues. If those issues pop up they can be diagnosed and treated.

Maybe your dogs didn’t have dental issues. We get it, man. You’ve figured out the big veterinarian scheme to fraudulently treat canine dental issues.

I didn’t say that. Just saying that paying attention to a dog’s dental health is important.

For some dogs....this does mean dental cleanings on top of the usual brushing your dog’s teeth on a regular basis, giving them treats that stimulate the gums, help clean their teeth, etc.

I read a book recently on the extermely high suicide rate of veterinarians.

Things contribute to it like many or business owners so there is that stress, several people depend on them, if they have the flu, it affects everyone. Also, the stress of going from one happy kid that just got a pup, to the devastated child that just lost his, to the old man that had to put down the chihuahua that was the love of his late wife that died of cancer last year. All in the same hour. Lots of things I never thought about but their suicide rate is one of the highest of any profession.

Throw in all that above, then the next customer is berating them because their bill was $100. Never thought about any of that before.
