Poor dental condition is one of the worst situations for a pet.

Why did you take your son to the vet?

$250 seems a bit steep for cleaning a dog’s teeth

But yes it needs to be done

Dental cleanings are important
They knock them out while they do the cleaning, 250.00 is average

If you think that's expensive don't clean them and wait till the real expensive problems manifest themselves

Dental hygiene is linked to heart and liver health.

Also, your boy and your wallet will thank you when he is 10 and can still eat regular dog food.

How old is the dog?

I’d highly recommend doing it. $250 seems high but I live in a fairly rural area.

$250 is about right considering they go under anesthesia. Ours had a tumor removed at the same time. Cost about $300 total.

250 isn’t high at all. Dental cleaning is expensive but absolutely necessary

Imagine if you didn’t brush, floss, or have dental cleanings for 5 years...your dog needs the same care. Don’t make your pet suffer (and not just dental health) because you don’t want to spend the money necessary to maintain its proper health.

He would jump in front of a bus for you—show him you appreciate his loyalty and treat his health as such.

Not when you consider the costs of putting them under anesthesia (which is necessary for cleanings) and the needed labwork prior to giving them anesthesia.

We have our dogs on pet plans at Banfield with PetSmart. An annual teeth cleaning included in the plan.

I've had three dogs that lived 12 or more years and never had a cleaning recommended. Sounds like BS. It might cause some sort of issue but probably not in the large majority of dogs.

You probably just didn’t notice it. Bad breath? Rubbing their face on furniture? Gums grown over the teeth? Imagine having sensitivity or nerve issues and not being able to tell anyone.

My vet will sedate, clean teeth, cut nails, and do a full exam for 75 bucks.

Rural vets are awesome

Me. Just did it this week actually.

I’d rather drop $200 - $300 now to stamp out any potential issues than pay thousands later. Plus my pup is too important to me to worry about dropping a few hundred here and there. Totally worth it.
