My mom's (you dont want pics) school had bats about 10 years ago. They are actually pretty cute.
And they eat 5 pounds of mosquitos a night.

They can also have rabies. Most of the rabies cases in the U.S. is from bats.
It's a public health concern. By the time a person starts showing symptoms of rabies they are a goner. So if you think you have been in contact with a bat your best chance is the rabies prophylaxis.
I went to an infectious disease conference last year for work. They had a similar situation at a high school in Utah. They found like 400-500 bats in the school. Kids were running around with bats on their bookpacks, etc. Utah public health department had to step in and close the school and determine who all was potentially in contact with the bats to offer treatment. They had to make arrangements with several local ERs to be able to give the rest of the rabies series of shots. The guy presenting the topic (an epidemiologist that worked that case) said they used social media to help them as well. Students were posing with bats in their hands and posting it on social media.
Bats have really small teeth..so you may not feel you have been bitten. My pastor had a bat that flew in his house. He woke up and saw it in the corner of his bedroom. He had to get the rabies shots cause there was concern he could have been bitten while he slept and didn't know it.

I don't think so. And not all bats automatically carry rabies. But it is just safer to treat them all that way.
Won't hurt you to get the rabies shots and turns out bat didn't have rabies.
But don't get the shots and you got bit by a bat that had rabies...you will die as rabies is almost always fatal without preventative treatment.

Foxes and skunks (at least in my state) are also the other main carriers of rabies.
There were people attacked by rabid foxes not too long ago in Flagstaff.
