The bat population is estimated to be between 1/5th and 1/4th of the total mammal population ... that’s a frick ton of bats. It stands to reason that there would be more total bats with rabies.
Bat attacks on humans are especially rare. You could be climbing in a cave with a million of them who are on their way to/from the cave to feed and not get bit once in a hundred years. In fact, the National Park service has even built seats right next to cave entrances so that people can watch them coming and going-

I would imagine someone climbing in a cave known to have bats is gonna be a lot more careful than school age kids at a school. And looking at bats from a distance is different than being in enclosed spaces with them.
Totally different situation. So is finding a single bat trapped in your home. The infestation I mentioned in Utah....teenage kids were picking up the bats (dead or alive) and sticking them in their pockets, backpacks, etc.

Dutchtown High Gym had to be closed because of something similar to this a few years back.

My last 2 properties have had bat issues, the current one thankfully not as bad.
