If a manufacturer were to build new line of SUVs similar to old CJ7s that had no new electronics, just a radio would you buy one?

We are talking mostly just metal, seats and wheels but the car is built to add on to and customize. Much like Jeeps but with more of a traditional SUV style

There is not a big enough market for that to make sense.

Nope. Just buy an old Jeep and do an LS swap. Problem solved.

I dunno, I think there would be a market even if niche. A lot of people are just old school and dont want GPSs, cameras, automatic braking systems etc. They just want an affordable and reliable car

Until they take a long ride in one that has those things.

I would honestly be happy with any mid sized non-crossover SUV.

I like the 4Runner, but I'd also take an X-Terra, Blazer, etc. My problem with modern crossovers isn't that they have all the comfort/convenience features. It's that they look, drive, and break like minivans.

What they did to the Explorer and Pathfinder is just sad.

Most people do. Particularly those that have a nice income and have a wife and kids. Still some people I think would love a new bare bones truck or SUV

The NHTSA has safety requirements that have to be met. All cars under 10,000 lbs have to have a back up camera by 2018.

"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a proposed rule requiring all new light vehicles — including cars, SUVs, trucks and vans — to have "rear-view visibility systems," in effect, requiring backup cameras. The rule would start phasing in on May 1, 2016 models and be at 100% May 1, 2018."

I hate all of them. Got the wife an Avalon and we're both happier.

No, I enjoy my electronics too much.
I'm sure they could find a niche following, but I'm not sure it would be large enough to be profitable.

I'm going to buy a Defender 90 in the next little bit if I can find one in decent shape. That's as bare bones as I'd feel safe driving.

My dad had a '71 Bronco when I was a kid. Thing was in great shape. Fully restored. Still felt like a death trap.

There are already companies in the US, UK, and Kangaroo land that make what you're talking about.

My first car in 1991 was a 1982 CJ8 Scrambler. Lots of great memories from HS and amazed I am still alive. I've been trying to buy it back from the guy I sold it to for the past 8years.

I would love to have my old one, but not a new one without sentimental value.

Since the new law was passed this year, in the next couple years you will see Major car manufacturers sell basically restomods with vintage sheetmetal, no airbags, andnew fuel injected engines.
