How much is state sales tax on vehicles in Louisiana? I see this on the Internet
quote:

Louisiana collects a 4% state sales tax rate on the purchase of all vehicles. There are also local taxes of up to 6%. The maximum tax that can be owed is 825 dollars.
but only in one place. I’m pretty sure I have paid much more than $825 in the past. So is it a straight 4% plus local? Is there a max? Surely the max cannot be $825

tax is 4.45 for state and your local tax is based on where you live. There is no max dollar value. This is per my tax wife. July 1 the state rate was reduced.

No it wasn't. It was 5%, and it was supposed to go back to 4% as it was before the temporary rate increase. Then they temporarily rose it to 4.45%

If you're looking to buy a car in Louisina, Many drive over to Houston to buy the vehicle to save money and then drive back to Louisiana.

That doesn’t work.

They still get the money from you based on where you register the car.

Yep...no loophole. Live in BR and bought a vehicle in Austin and paid like $3,500 in LA sales taxes.
