My point exactly, what does a pope that goes against everything you just said have to do with you, yourself, serving and helping others. At best he hinders this point for most catholics

Maybe it’s a terrible take for other churches. A lot of people use the excuse of the abuse for leaving but don’t understand faith or what the church actually teaches
Many people don’t want to hear (or do) what the church teaches - blaming it on the abuse is the easy route. Most people just go to churches where they say what they want to hear.
