Jesus frowns on this thread with all the judgement and throwing of stones.

We are all Gods children. And all denominations have their positives and negatives but as men we all are imperfect and fall short of the glory of God

Are you.dense?

Read John 20:21-23. Here, I'll quote it for you:

quote:

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples[l] were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.[m] The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 [n][Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22 [o]And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. 23 [p]Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”

This was Jesus giving the Apostles the power to perform the Sacrament of Penance through the Holy Spirit, and that has been handed down to priests since.

Well said.

But to be fair, it's certain Protestants on here who always take the Catholic-centric threads in this direction.

This is where catholics lose people. That is a church tradition and not supported by Scripture anywhere.

My mom’s side of family is catholic. I do think the church has been too political and powerful at times in history and definitely has its issues but your run of the mill catholic church and priest are good people.

I do like how Catholics acknowledge and study the evil side of things like demonic possession and such. Protestants don’t really touch on that side of things

I am not arguing over what scripture says, I’m asking you about the bolded part, which is not supported by scripture and is a catholic belief.

You all keep saying that but every time we show you how it is supported in scripture.

It's a church tradition. It's okay if you believe it, but that is what it is, as already said.

Well, there is only one with 66 books. The others are church tradition. And that's fine.

It is supported by Scripture, again, in John 20:21-23

Already been discussed.

I have catholic friends. They are good people.

No since continuing to repeat the same thing over and over.

I highly recommend this book:

It is the best Catholic apologetic book out there and really breaks down why we believe what we believe and Keating backs it up Scripturally as well as dives into the tradition of such sacraments as Penance and The Eucharist.
