Nashorn (German: ['na?s?h???n], German for "rhinoceros"), initially known as Hornisse (German "hornet"), was a German Panzerjäger ("tank hunter") of World War II. It was developed as an interim solution in 1942 by equipping a light turretless chassis based on the Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks with the 8.8 cm Pak 43 anti-tank gun. Though only lightly armoured and displaying a high profile, it could penetrate the front armour of any Allied tank at long range, and its relatively low cost and superior mobility to heavier vehicles ensured it remained in production until the war's end.

Do you have a room where you keep all these? How many would you say you have done?

I have my “model office” where I build and display my models.

I have somewhere around 200 or so on my shelves with something like 100 or so kits in my stash to build.

So did they change their tank production every 6 months to try and keep up or get ahead?

German armored vehicle production was an absolute mess. They had a myriad of different designs of tanks, tank destroyers, and various other vehicles in production at the same time. Many of these were of dubious value and did more to drain resources and create logistics nightmares than help the war effort.

The Nashorn though was actually a really good tank killer. It used the same hull as the Pz.kpfw IV, so it shared many parts with it. It didn’t have much armor protection. But as an ambush tank killer, it was excellent thanks to its devastating 8.8 cm Pak 43 main gun.

Great models and pictures as always Darth.

Hijack question for you, what site do you use to host your pictures. I want to post something and am having issues.

Thanks. I was going for a heavier weathering look on this one. At this point in the war, the panzerjäger abteilungs on the Eastern Front were being used increasingly as “fire brigade” units, being shuffled from sector to sector, attached to one division after another constantly to try to seal off Red Army penetrations. They were being run ragged with little time for maintenance or rest.

Best work yet, great detail. Even have the foot wearing on the check plate on the turret deck…

That’s awesome.

Thanks. I know it would be heavier on each side of the main gun so I just went heavier in those spots.
