1. Frank "Gabby" Gabreski was the top scoring ace in Europe, flying the P47. His daughter in law, Terry Gabreski, is the first female USAF Lieutenant General and an LSU graduate.
2. P47 pilot Quentin Aanenson was part of the Ken Burns WWIi series and the subject of his own documentary. He did part of his training in Batin Rouge and married a girl from there LINK

Very nice. I used to love putting them together. I may go to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and buy a model. My nephew was a Master Chief over two of these MK.1's. That's what I've been trying to find in model form.
Have you ever messed with any of those small Metal Earth models?
The pics on the boxes look great, and they're just $12. Guys in the comments say get Jewelry pliers, or use needle nose pliers, and use them and tweezers. Doesn't sound hard for how good it might look.

Those are very nice! I’m currently in the process of moving I’ve got mine packed up, I don’t think I’ve got pics on my phone but I’ll bump this when I do.
You are much better than I am, that much I know.
I opted not to do the wings up position for the Corsair as I was scared I’d mess it up but same model, same for the P-38 as well.

My uncle by marriage was from a small town in Washington and also did his training at Harding Field in BR, where he met my Dad’s sister. He flew P47s with the 365th Fighter Group (the Hell Hawks).

Thanks. I’ve never been a big fan of the bubble canopy P-47. I like the lines of the Razorback better.
(for those wondering what we’re talking about, later versions of the P-47 had a “bubble” canopy)

Takes me back to when I did models as a kid. My uncle would get so pissed because I would get in a hurry. So, my aunt would step in and guide me through my early builds.

An awesome airplane. I had the privilege of seeing P-47 and a P-51 at Barksdale several years ago. The sound of both are incredible but the ‘47 became my favorite that day.

Thanks. I got started as a kid as well. This was back when you could go to Kmart and they had a full model isle. I’ve built them ever since. I didn’t built that many for a long time. But now that I’m older, kids are older, and I have a lot of free time, I get to build a lot more. Oftentimes I’ll take a Friday off (like I did yesterday) and spend the whole day at my model desk.

I’m sure you already know this, but the bubble canopy was developed for better visibility for the pilot.
The early versions of both the P-51 and the P-47 suffered from blind spots until the bubble canopy was developed.

The guys from the 4th Fighter Group had to transition directly from the Spitfire to the P-47. Quite a difference.

Very Nice Vader!!!
I like to model armor; however, I haven't felt the mojo in a few years, so my workbench has been collecting dust.
The last thing I was working on was the Tamiya 88mm Flak.
The kit, out of the box, lacks a lot of detail so I scratch built some details and was using a lot of photo etch, and an aftermarket barrel.

Interesting to see the comparisons of fighters.
The FW 190 was a nice looking airplane too.
It would be hard to choose between the P-47, P-51 and Corsair for which fighter to be in during a dogfight in WWII.
