Darth--that paint pattern is outstanding.
Thanks. It was pretty easy to do. After assembly of the main body, I first painted the lighter grey green over the whole thing. I then took silly putty rolled into really thin pieces, and masked out the pattern before painting the dark green. All I had to do was remove the putty, and the pattern was set.
The white strips on the wings and tail was supposed to be decals. But I decided it would look better to mask and paint the white parts.

As always, great work, Buddy. These things are so awesome.
I'll go ahead and ask, does this one actually fly? What kind of gas mileage does it get?
Last thing, do you think Eleanor Roosevelt was good looking? If not not good looking... Looking?

My favorite image I took in the Churchill War Rooms :
Great build Darth, camo scheme is well-done.

My model? No. It’s entirely plastic and made only for display. As for the real thing, it did indeed fly. Japan built over 1,700 of them and the Imperial Army used them from jsit before the start of the war to the end of the war.

Even in her youth…

… she peaked at a OT 2.2 at best and steadily declined from there.

That might be the most British thing I’ve ever seen.

It has a single vertical stab instead of a split tail, but it reminds me of the Soviet Pe-2.

I built a 1/72 scale PE-2 a few years ago.

They do have similar lines other than the tail as you mentioned.

Awesome job as always.
Kind of looks like a Bf 110. Wonder how they compared.
Keep up the great work, I always look forward to seeing what you have made.

The BF110 was the inspiration for the Ki-45. At that time, heavy fighters, or “destroyers” as they were also known, were seen as an integral part of air operations. When the Japanese saw the Germans developing the BF110, the IJA ordered a heavy fighter of its own. It had similar performance as the BF110. And, as was the case with the BF110, once the war started, they discovered the Ki-45 could not compete with modern single-seat fighters.
eta: BTW, my first build of 2025 was a BF110

The Soviets definitely built their planes with function in mind and not form. None of theirs is what I would call beautiful.

The device you see on the end of the prop spinners is for a hucks starter.
Basically the Japanese used a vehicle with a PTO driving a shaft which would engage the boss in the end of the spinner and spin up the engine so it could start I believe that aircraft and some other Japanese aircraft do not have electrical starters to save weight.

Ah. That makes sense. The Japanese were obsessed about keeping the weight of their aircraft as light as possible. From what I’ve read, that’s why they didn’t use self-sealing fuel tanks on their aircraft, a decision that cost the lives of thousands of their pilots.

That’s one reason why I build so few of their WWII era aircraft. For the most part, they’re just ugly. The one exception though is the Ilyushin IL-2 shturmovík.
