The Junkers Ju 87 or Stuka (from Sturzkampfflugzeug, "dive bomber") is a German dive bomber and ground-attack aircraft. Designed by Hermann Pohlmann, it first flew in 1935. The Ju 87 made its combat debut in 1937 with the Luftwaffe's Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939 and served the Axis in World War II from beginning to end (1939–1945).

Thanks. I found this camouflage pattern via a Google search of North African Stukas. Basically it’s the standard angular two-tone green that was commonly used by the Luftwaffe in Europe in 1939-1942 with desert camouflage painted over it.

Where is the little dive horn that gave it a distinctive sound?

What are the prevailing thoughts within the model community of using historically accurate decals such as the swastika?

They probably believe it's historically accurate

Here in the states it’s more common to see historically accurate markings, which means using the Swastika. But, a lot of kits now no longer come with swastika decals. We get around that by ordering aftermarket swastika decal sheets. This Stuka I just built didn’t come with swastikas so what you see on this one is aftermarket decals I ordered from EBay

There are some “woke” modelers (yes, wokeism has even invaded the world of scale models) who always act indignant that anyone would “glorify” nazism. They’re looked at as a joke and nobody takes them or their opinions seriously.

It really is. When I’m building, I don’t think of anything else besides what I’m doing then and there. It’s a great way to unwind.

It’s a shame you have these few sad sacks down voting your great work. Must really suck to be them.

What was the armament package on this plane? I know they were feared by targets on the ground.

I gotta admit, it does sometimes give me pause to see so many Nazi and Axis models. But I just figure that you've also done a ton of American and Allied ones and you are being complete. Besides, the Germans were pretty damned good at coming up with military vehicles. You did a good job on this one as usual.

Cutting firewood with a chainsaw does that for me.

Thanks. I also do American, Soviet, British, Japanese, and Italian models. I’ve also done Swedish, Romanian, and Polish models. But I do more German vehicles than anything. It’s not out of anything resembling fondness for Nazism. It’s more that their vehicles look cooler and they tended to use far more interesting and widely varied camouflage patterns.

The Stuka had many variants with differing armament packages. This version had two wing mounted MG17 machines guns and another in a rear gunner’s position. And it could carry up to 1,000 lbs of bombs.
