The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in frontline service until the end of the war. It was the third most-produced American fighter of World War II, after the P-51 and P-47; by November 1944, when production of the P-40 ceased, 13,738 had been built,[3] all at Curtiss-Wright Corporation's main production facilities in Buffalo, New York.

Thanks! Glad you like it. It was a relatively quick build. I had a total of four days in it, so roughly 32-34 hours give or take.

Got to see one of these babies fly a couple months ago. Amazing aircraft with a gorgeous sound.

Thanks. Speaking of bottom, I forgot to take a pic of the bottom after I was done. I did get this one while I was still working on it.

The P-40 has always been one of my favorites. My very first model, probably about 45 years ago, was the old Monogram P-40 kit.

Is that a gryphon on the side (in yellow)?

Good work, as always, Buddy.
Hope all is well with you and yours.

No. It’s a winged tiger…

The 76th Fighter Squadron started off as the AVF fighting the for China against Japan before the US entered WWII. After Pearl Harbor the AVG was rolled over into the US Army Air Force.

Appreciate the history lesson, very interesting. Just stopped by wiki to read a little about the AVG--fascinating story, especially the part which you referenced about them forming and training in China almost a year before Pearl Harbor. Thought the following was interesting as well:
The AVG was created by an executive order of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek. He did not speak English, however, and Chennault never learned to speak Chinese. As a result, all communications between the two men were routed through Soong Mei-ling, "Madame Chiang" as she was known to Americans, and she was designated the group's "honorary commander."

Yeah. The AFG was a very interesting chapter in WWII history.
