Walked into a sweet bar in downtown SLC 18 months ago without scanning just to get in but they did ask for my ID at the bar

Weird. You got lucky.

Uh, the black ladies at my local circle K will card an 80 year old. Expired ids are probably the best part of their day.

The alcohol laws in Utah are far different than we are used to for sure.

Yeah, my wife ran into this at a work conference last summer. They had a little downtime late in the afternoon, and went to the rooftop pool. Not sure if it was Utah laws or hotel policy, but they couldn't get a beer without ordering food, and only one drink at a time. Plus they shut it down at like 7 PM. You could still get food, but no more beer/wine after 7. And even though it was still on the property, they were not allowed to buy a beer at the pool and take it back to their room.

Maybe it was just in Provo then since they're mormon central. ABG's scans everyone who walks in

Utah is weird. If I’m in a restaurant I have to order food with a drink but I can go to a bar and drink 4 Black Manhattan’s and not have to order food.

Does she ask you if you'd like to get an ooey-gooey cake as well?

A lot of places get around this by having a $1 popcorn bowl or pretzels kind of bar snacks that you have to get with the drinks

Go to a convenience store in Denver. You’ll have to scan your ID to purchase.

Same in Utah.

I'll have to ask her and see if she remembers, but I think it was some limited appetizer menu, and maybe sandwiches/burgers were the only options at the pool. What I do remember is her texting me pictures of this lady sporting a bright red thong by the pool making out with her man, and at first I missed that, because I thought it was just PDA, but then she pointed out the cheeks to me.

If you get a DUI aren’t you supposed to refrain from using alcohol? If you have to keep it on your ID after your case is resolved I can see it being an issue.

Makes more sense than a lot of other restrictions.

Do they still cap ABV in beer? Bud heavy 3.2% or similar?

I believe they stopped that in 2019?

No, it's 5% to be served on draft. Anything higher comes out of a can/bottle. Makes no fricking sense.

This is actually not a bad idea at all…abuse alcohol you lose your privilege to buy alcohol.
