unions are antiques of the past
no they still serve a purpose...namely organization and structuring the workforces of large-scale secondary industries
it's a lot easier for a big company to negotiate with one workforce than tens of thousands of individual employees. lowers transactional costs

Yeaaaaa that's what I was trying to say

I've never seen one of those stickers and been in oil and gas 7 years
Must be a south la thing. But I get what you're saying

well that particular industry gets targeted for 2 reasons (both apply only in the "good times")
1. the self-proclaimed "oil field trash" loves acting like their life is a rap video and showing off all their bling/toys
2. the educated workforce that earns significantly less than the uneducated workforce, in the face of #1, isn't going to take kindly to that culture.
it's just a dual-sided group identification process
the thing is, that only applies during the good times. oil field work is a volatile market and the "good times" are only temporary. that's why they make so much. they should be saving the excess for the learn times (like now). they don't (which is the only way they can sustain #1 above), so not it's time for the roles to flip and that non "oil field trash" to talk about how great their life is and how much it sucks to be the other guy
Nail on the damn head. Don't go buy a big house, jacked up truck, and a couple thousand worth of tats on your first paycheck.

There a link where the USW updates the strike list?
That's would require any of those ignorant frickers to have the ability to operate a computer and know how to spell. frick em I hope all union management gets rounded up and tossed in the gulf.

you work in operations much? been to many offshore platforms?
you're at a completely different level of the food chain. i don't see them in lake charles, either
that's more of a lafayette-area thing, b/c they're all based around drilling operations

they're rejoicing over decreased gas prices and karma catching up to those who brag...not every member of the O/G industry

But it affects every member of the oil & gas industry

"oil field trash" are only a small portion of the oil and gas industry. And so what. They work hard. I don't understand why the OT wishes misfortune on so many people
Agreed. Most of the folks I know in O&G certainly don't fit the "trash" category. I think lots of the hate here is based on pure envy. Some kid who spent a lot of time and money getting a degree finds out someone with no degree is out earning him and jealousy takes over. Same with the hate for plant workers.
I don't understand the mindset that "O&G doesn't affect me". If you're in Texas or Louisiana, chances are it effects you. Even if you're not directly in the field, the states well being is directly tied to it so it is a fatally myopic view to think you aren't or won't be feeling some discomfort as well.

that's the nature of markets. there are good times and there are bad times. oil has been in a "good time" for a long while now
the past couple years have been insanely good for O/G

I do. Not as often as when I am in Laffy but I see them in LC. I even see them in pink on the wive's BMW or Escalade.
