Odd to see a fire in the bow part of the ship....must be a bow thruster that caught on fire

Let me speak for the OT: we didn't start the fire.

I'm truly shocked there are three males in charge of the New Orleans.
Even more shocking
Commander Matthew Watts
Captain Kevin T. Dean
Command Master Chief Justin A. Hoffman

Prayers for the DCs, HTs and Engineering personnel fighting that bitch
Does the DC rating exist? They had merged all DC's into the HT rating back in the mid 2000's.

I guess I'm showing my age.
They were all their own rate when i was in, as was MM BT, EN ET. iirc they've combined a lot of them as well.

CMC Hoffman, Chief of the boat, +28 years of service, 8 rows of ribbons. You can imagine he doesn’t have take a lot of shite from anyone.

When you are an E9, nobody is going to tell him that to his face.

the blaze, which began while the amphibious warship was off Okinawa's White Beach
Of course it is whitey's fault.

So you are saying you really don’t have first hand experience how it works in the military other than what you have seen in the movies?

I would think a sub could be just as alarming
Alarming on a sub?? Holeee Jesus it'd be more than alarming.
I'm at least happy that the USS New Orleans was built in Avondale (Westwego) as opposed to the Pascagoula shipyard. Because building the USS New Orleans in Mississippi instead of Louisiana would be a very Louisiana thing to do.

We had a very small fire in the dryer once... even a tiny blaze will fill the compartment with smoke in a few minutes. Its like walking around in the dark trying to figure out what's burning.
You also have to take into account the enclosed cylindrical space causes hot gasses to roll to the upper level and just the heat can ignite another fire up there.
Submarine firefighting is a motherfricker

Built at Avondale:
“After arriving in San Diego, New Orleans required 400,000 more man-hours of construction to bring her to fully operational status. In August 2008, the ship failed her INSURV inspection. The INSURV inspectors documented 2,600 deficiencies, including problems with the steering system, broken ventilation fans, inoperable elevators, corrosion on the flight deck, and an unreliable propulsion system. "USS New Orleans was degraded in her ability to conduct sustained combat operations," the INSURV report said.[1]

Commissioned in 2007
If that much shite is broken it's piss poor maintenance by the ship's crew. MFers not doing their jobs.
