So this is interesting. I remember a while back traveling through BR when the river was loosing flow from north that salt water intrusion occurred and the BR bridge actually had blue water from GoM minus the mud flow from Mississippi river. Did not think about it until this post but why isn't that happening now. Something obviously different over the years. This event was probably almost 30 years ago when I worked out of Venice.

It's been about 35 years since the water was low enough to fully expose the riverbed under the USS Kidd like that. The hull has been out of the water before - that happens every 5-6 years...but being able to walk underneath it is rare.

Yep. I was about 11 or 12 when I remember going down there and you could touch the very bottom of the ship.
Was it 1987 or 1988?

Those Fletcher Class Destroyers entombed many a German sailors in those equally legendary U-Boats.

Looks like a great time to clean and inspect the lower half and also the supports.

can't be accurate with all that grass growth around it.
Rivers been below 9' for the past 6 weeks. Don't take grass that long to grow when its still 90 degrees out

Thalweg. This is the deepest part of the main channel . Of course in the thalweg the current is the strongest. Anything caught in the main channel will likely end up in the gulf.

I’m pretty sure that dry dock was designed by a cartoonist. (DIN was the man)

Can someone explain why the river is so low?

Seriously though, it does have something to do with it. Not as much rain up North. Hell, not as much rain anywhere. This board was posting once a week about how it's been so dry lately. Eventually, the water runoff from up North will slow down.
