People in NC think they are not deep south and that everyone wants to be like them. They also think that the world stops on its axis when Duke and UNC play gym ball.

Town hall meetings in rural NC are something to behold. I live in one such town in the WNC mountains. Last Thursday was an especially eventful meeting over individual rights and freedoms on public lands. It's sad, in many ways, how people not from here take advantage of the poor here. They come to visit from Florida, talk about how much they hate Florida, and then try to pass every legislation possible to make it just like it was in their shithole Florida town. As far as solar panels go, we have them here on the mountain side and they're the most terrible looking abomination you'll ever see. In one breath, they bitch about climate change and renewable energy, all while destroying the mountain to obtain it.

The few people I've met from NC think that it's the greatest thing ever. All the nice aspects of the south with the intellect of Duke and UNC.
As far as solar panels "using up the sun". Solar panels are only like 13% efficient in turning the Sun's energy into electricity. So even if you literally cover the entire town, you'd only "lose" 13% of the "sunshine" (I can't even type that without shaking my head).

They're getting a lot better. A lot of houses in the islands have gone to solar panels because electricity is ridiculously expensive and the panels on the roof don't detract from the overall look of the house.

That didn't take long to research. My capstone design project in engineering involved solar panels. I had to do a lot of research and that was a number that stuck out in my head. Might be a little off, but I found plenty of websites that claim the same range.

And a company wants to put up a new farm, but the city stands to gain nothing from it.
To me, it sounds like the solar installation was ultimately rejected for financial reasons; and the news outlet picked up a quote from one idiot in town and are running around with that, as if it represents everyone's opinion there.
