No, you didn't. You didn't even mention China in your response to me and Switzerland was just something that had nothing to do with trade per se.

If you can not or will not articulate a specific goal with China, Switzerland, watches, and vacuums, then I assume you don't know the goal. I can't blame you since nobody has articulated a specific goal that I have been able to discern.

wouldn't argue against that but droughts took away a lot of grasslands resulting in herd liquidation. Imports are short term relief options

Bull shite
If all this acres wouldn’t have been taken out in Iowa/missouri/dakotas / eastern Nebraska where there is rarely a severe drought herd numbers would still be strong

Also beef isn’t expensive when you compare it to the shite food people spend money on

The goal with China is to diminish their stranglehold on certain markets that they have gained through nefarious trade practices and currency devaluation. That is about as obvious and public of a strategy as we have today short of mass deportation. Knowing you, this is being your namesake for whatever purposes you think are important.

Switzerland, asked and aswered, no clue what else you want from me there. Watches and vacuums is a transparent and absolutely irrelevant focus for this discussion.

You have done nothing but question me. Would you like to contribute an original thought? You are usually quite motivated to do so, about literally every topic ever discussed.

We are using our considerable leverage as a consumer and market making nation to force better trade agreements on an individual nation basis. Strategic targeting of imbalanced industries, nations who are capturing certain production and labor markets, and certain adversarial nations are all getting varying degress of carrot and stick. I think the end goal varies by specific market, with variables like our domestic capabilities, supply and demand dynamics, and industries directly correlated to our national security all getting slightly different treatment. Ultimately, I don't believe tariffs are the end goal in all these cases. A fair and balanced global econony based specifically on the best interests of the golden market (i.e. us) is the goal. Whether through tariffs, bilateral agreements, or aggressive bullying of certain asshoe nations.

Speak clearly. Do you disagree with my assessment of the strategy, or whether it will work? Two very different discussions. One isn't suitable for this board or this thread.

You said a lot of words. Let's just agree on that.

They sold off the breeding stock due to southwest drought and rising costs. We have the smallest herd we have had in decades. Price elasticity and breeding will kick in but it will take a few years

Prices are all time highs at the auctions, folks are selling all they can and making good money. They are selling all their future momma cows, if you think things are bad now, just wait.

The reason for rising prices and shortage of cows to slaughter, is mainly due none going to feedlots from Mexico this year. A disease has spread through Mexican range herds.

I gave you a concise assessment of China and an an honest status of where I am on the EU. Trust me bro is kind of an emotional reaction to someone being honest about where they are rather than pretending to know more than I actually do like the vast majority of this board.

I don't think my type of discussion jives with this board. There is no way to escape the egotistical insecurity of message board banter.

Eta
What is your honest take? Or are you in the camp of "I don't get it, therefore it must be wrong amd dumb" like the aforementioned egotistically insecure among us?

I mean.. let’s look at the statement that started this discussion:
quote:

Our current tariff strategy is fluid, targeted, and much more nuanced than blanket tariffs.

You claim it’s targeted and nuanced, but then fall back on “well I don’t pretend to know everything unlike the rest of you egotistical assholes.” That.. kind of sounds like “trust me bro.” Or - more accurately - “trust them, bro.”

I think that, to many people, the strategy appears to have been: blanket tariffs, followed by a whole bunch of concessions/reductions based on pushback from the public or special interest groups, followed by further reductions if some sort of concession/win can be extracted from the country in question.

I’m not sure that approach really qualifies as “targeted and nuanced.” It looks more like a blanket approach where the tariffs are the default stance across the board, and then we use that as a carrot/stick for.. whatever we can get out of them.

Could that opinion be wrong? Sure. But it’s not “I don't get it, therefore it must be wrong and dumb” as you suggest. It’s more like “if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and nobody can articulate why it’s not a duck…”

Indian tariffs were targeted to get them to buy our oil, which worked.

Tariffs on Vietnam were pulled back in favor of a trade deal

Tariffs on EU were cut in half after concessions. Specific tariffs on specific countries are actively being negotiated.

There are plenty of examples. You know none of them, nor could you even pretend to understand the implications.

Not a popular opinion on here, but Trump’s second term is hugely disappointing:

RFK sucks. Agree on Tulsi and Rubio. Rubio is turning out to be one of the best SOS's ever
