I'm all for this if they can weed out the folks who rack up $100,000K+ of debt in bullshite majors with a low earnings ceiling

i literally could lose my shite over this if it turns out deadbeats who just didn't want to work get their debt forgiven.

i'd expect a reimbursement for actually paying off my student loans by actually working and budgeting.

Because that's a big portion of the forgiveness. Plus IBR and PLSF often go hand in hand.

IDR*

They do go hand in hand, but are not at all the same.

PLSF is forgiveness after 10 years of service/120 monthly payments. (government service)

IDR plans are 20-25 years of monthly payments that are at the lowest, about 10% of your discretionary income. (anybody)

IDR Plans

There are tables showing examples and even in the least paying scenario the original loan amount gets paid back. Some of the plans really are not good for the individual yet after 25 years there still is some balance to be "forgiven". So basically after fricking you for 25 years they say okay, we'll forgive the rest.

I don't see a problem in investing in education for Americans. We, as a country, will see a higher ROI than spending 20 Billion in the Middle East fighting wars.

Kind of difficult to have an environment conducive to learning when you have ragheads ramming into college crowds, then jumping out of cars slashing with machetes.

What's going to be funny is when Millenials get all of their debt forgiven, enter the workforce and then remove the benefit from future generations because they don't want to pay the taxes for it.

And again someone misunderstands what is being discussed.

Your dad fell into the equivalent of a 6 figure/year job right out of high school?

If you think the exceptions to the rule are the norm, you're gonna have some major disappointments in life.

WTF. A couple months ago, I finished paying my student loan. Took me 20 years. Good gawd, these snow flakes are spoiled and given stuff without working hard for it.

The goal of a public university is to educate and develop its populace. It is not and should not be a factory to produce only high income earning jobs after school. it's part of a non-profit service to the people of the state first.

this is pretty much just a college/university bailbout

universities keep the outrageous tuition money, students dont have to repay, and the taxpayers get fricked

very similar to the WS bailout in 2008
