Eye of the beholder. Everyone I know who moved to Denver or CO in general is either still there loving it or had to move for career or family matters, but would otherwise have stayed bc they loved it. I’d live there in a heartbeat personally.
Boulder is nice but too pricey to top the list imo.
Of course we won’t get many objective opinions on this board where LA is the greatest thing since sliced bread even though most have never lived outside a 50 mile radius from their birthplace there. LA is at the bottom of these type lists for a reason, it doesn’t offer quality remotely close to places like CO. I say this as a LA native btw.

The negative vs positive threads or posts about Louisiana on the OT are easily 10/1.

Nobody hates on Louisiana like a Louisianian.

Haven’t lived in Louisiana in 13 years, but still wouldn’t live in Austin.

LA at 97 and NYC at 121 is appropriate though.

I think a lot of the criticism is valid but I also think the OT takes it overboard a lot of times.

Probably because they’ve spent a long part of their life in a state where there was never truly an upwardly trajectory in terms of economic growth, crime, good schools and healthcare. Sure, you could argue this for a lot of southern states, but people who are mobile and want to see where their tax dollars go are going to go elsewhere. You talk about brain drain a lot, and yet it’s still the case and stronger than ever before.

BR used to be a pretty good place to live, bang for your buck wise.
Not so much anymore though.

It seems like we did have some positive things happening economically in BR 10+ years ago. BR had a Fortune 500 company, Amedisys was growing into a big employer, IBM and Albemarle coming to town etc.
It just seems like it's been so long since we had some economic wins all while crime and homelessness have gotten worse.

BR was a decent place to raise a family in the 80s to early 90s and prior. There were some bad neighborhoods but crime was pretty much confined to those and they were easily avoidable. Some of the public schools were still viable options for the middle class.

Been here much longer than you bro. It’s not LA alone, it’s the entire Gulf Coast that have this inflated view of how “great” the area is while thinking the rest of the country blows which couldn’t be further from the truth.
What’s worse, any dissenting opinions must be wrong. Small mindedness permeates this place and people resort to attacks instead of having a dialogue and trying to expand their worldview. Or let a political stance make them hate an entire region, which is asinine. There’s normal and crazy people everywhere, no exceptions. I’ve had great visits to most of these places for the record and have connections to several. I wouldn’t live in all of them for one reason or another, but I recognize many would make for a great home.
As to the list - I’d move Nashville and Raleigh higher and San Diego should replace SF, then move higher. Those are all top 10 imo.
