That takes the fun out of it all. What retard is going to keep doing what he's doing after getting a warning shot from a laser gun? It's a freakin' lazer beem.

With Deflector Shields
quote:
The paper, published in the student Journal of Special Physics Topics, details a means by which plasma could be used to create a barrier around a ship, or other object, which could deflect certain kinds of energy. The basis of this approach to inventing science-fiction tech is very real. We already make use of the same physics described here when bouncing communication signals off the plasma present in the upper atmosphere — in a layer known as the ionosphere. If you want to send a radio frequency signal to a location on the Earth’s surface that is over the horizon, scientists have long known it can simply be bounced off the ionosphere. It’s a bit like a mirror for electromagnetic radiation. You want the same property in a deflector shield.
The students used the ionosphere as the seed for the hypothetical shield described in the paper. Essentially, if you can wall yourself off with plasma, it can be used to deflect electromagnetic radiation, like a directed energy weapon (a laser or something similar). The design of this s-style shield relies on high-power magnets, which would be used to contain a wall of plasma around the vessel. The more dense this plasma is, the higher the frequency of electromagnetic radiation (i.e. power of the laser) it can protect you from.

I'm sure they are working on counter measures like this now because they have to know the enemy will get this tech eventually.

This technology is already in the form of a shoulder fired weapon. As it was told to me...'in 10 years, gunpowder will be as obsolete as musket balls'.

so instead of kevlar we wear mirrored vests?

We need to build another one and anchor it off the coast of N. Korea. Every time that short fat punk bitch tries to "test" a missile, we can shoot it down about 100' off the pad.

and then say they failed shortly after lift off ? Hmmm.

Have you seen the accuracy at which you can aim a beam of light ? As a morbid clown, you'd think cranial explosions would be your first thought.

we don't worry about range,
Obviously but the curvature of the earth would play a factor I would guess. So I wonder what the workable range really is?

Exactly. I can just see him and his posse of clowns standing there watching and scratching their heads.

Anyone else kinda sad they didn't name it the Photon Energy Weapon System? PEWS for short.

This is so awesome
What are the chances some of our enemies have something similar? Kind of scary to think about what this system could do to a couple of civilian airliners.
Also, it would be cool to point this at little Kim Jung and watch his head explode.

Stand by the government will sell the technology to Russia and China will just still the technology

So you are saying that photons can't travel through space? How do we see the sun and stars?

Thanks for starting numerous conspiracy theories.

I would think the target needs to be within the line of sight. That brings up an interesting question, is it powerful enough to go through multiple walls? Like if you wanted to destroy something in the center room of a building, could you just open fire from outside the building and burn a hole to your target? I would think the answer is yes and it'd just be a question of how much time and how much collateral damage was caused in the process.

Not photons, lasers. I know this is complicated but try to keep up.
