That was the one way flight charge per person to fly from Cameroon to DC. The original round trip fare was only $800. Anyone know how these loans for charter flights organized by the US embassies will be paid back? I'm guessing it will be repaid during tax season next year.

It's be pretty shitty for them to ask you for that to be repaid considering they are throwing laundry hampers of cash at the rest of the country for nothing

It's free but what you didn't know is that you consented to have all vaccines tested on you

I think so too and I don't really understand how it can be that much per person. There wasn't anything special about the flight besides it being chartered by the government.

The US embassies are chartering flights to bring home US citizens and green card holders who are stuck overseas. The flight today was the 3rd one organized by the US embassy from Cameroon to the US. My wife has been stranded in Cameroon for 2 months.

I think he got hit for around the same amount. I was hoping he would see this and have some information he could share.

On a commercial aircraft, business and first class tickets subsidize economy tickets.

I imagine there were no such premium seats or tickets charged a premium rate, so you paid your actual seat price plus some of the PITA of arranging it all.

Were you forced to fly home or was it your choice? What would it have cost you if you had arranged it yourself on short notice?

Well that essentially means the ticket is now going to be expensive as frick.

About the only thing the govt gets right is spending money. They’re the best at that.

We weren't forced but it was already over 2 months since my wife and I had seen each other and there currently are no other options.

This makes sense. I wasn't considering that angle.

Interesting Miami Herald article. Basically says you are paying the price of a round trip ticket, and if it's on an airline that doesn't normally fly there, you are paying for one-time contracts which of course will be expensive.

Looks like they will send you a bill in 6-8 weeks, with 30 days to pay. If not paid, eventually they can garnish tax refund, etc.

That's a very informative article. Thanks for the link. Makes sense that you have to pay round trip fares.
