This one has two because there's a pretty steep mountain pass that bisects the county from east to west, and years ago it was a difficult route to take for citizens.

So, they just do it for ease of travel? How do you know which courthouse you need to go to?

2 seats? Everyone else must be pretty tired from just standing all the time...

Why is the dirty south represented so much?

Why are Arkansas and Mississippi represented so much?

They had counties with natural obstacles obstructing the path to one county seat, so instead of splitting the county in two, they just gave one county two seats.

That's why it was that way originally years and years ago. No idea why it is still that way.

I think the 2 courthouses handle specific things, but citizen services are available at both. I don't live in that county so not 100% sure on that though. The two seats(Pell City and Ashville) are only 15-20 minutes apart.

This isn't correct.

Coffee County has one county seat. The first county seat was in Wellborn. After the courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1851, the county seat was moved to Elba.

There may be some County Government buildings in the larger city of Enterprise, but Elba is the county seat.

I’m literally seeing nothing on the parishes mentioned. Is the split parish-seats of these respective parishes only a known fact to the locals there?

The Jefferson Parish Courthouse is in Gretna but the Parish President's office is in Harahan.

Not officially two seats, but this isn't that uncommon in Parishes split by the river.

Campbell County is directly across the river from Cincinnati. Apparently Newport used to be the county seat waaaaay back when, Kenton County was formed from part of Campbell County, and they moved the seat to Alexandria. At some point Newport raised enough hell about getting their county seat status back and the courts just granted them dual status. ??

I think you are right, but I've seen Harahan used for the Yenni Building.

Probably by people from Harahan.

Campbell County is an example of bitchiness vs. logic. Alexandria is in the center of the county and the logical seat. Newport is in the most populus part of the county, extreme north across the river from Cincinnati, and the residents bitched that they should have special status. It was given to them to shut them up n 2010.

Probably the ones still not telling folks they “live in River Ridge.”

Right. Ascension has, for example, functioning courthouses in both Donaldsonville and Gonzales (plus other duplication). So depending on what is the definition of having two seats, I think Ascension qualifies.
