It’s a ridiculous question that isn’t relevant to any point that I’ve made.

You should email the army, I guess.

Then why are you on the OT wringing your hands over the possibility of a shooting in a theater?

I mean I'm not on here wringing my hands over the possibility that I could trip over my cat and break my neck.

I understand there's an extremely low chance of another shooting at a theater happening. But Im not seeing this movie in theaters for the first 3 weeks.

I understand there's an extremely low chance of being struck by lightning, but I'm not going outside for the next 3 weeks.

This reply tells me you aren't intelligent enough to make your own argument.

I'm not. I literally said it sucks that we have to consider it a possibility. Which it does because it is a possibility.

No, you're just strawmanning a position I never took.

I realized it. It's the whole reason I said this:

Your only reply was "email the army."

It also sucks that I have to consider the possibility of tripping over my cat and breaking my neck.

Again, not something that I would bring up in conversation because it's rather...silly.

Unless of course emotions rule your train of thought.

That was my reply to your post:

It's happened what, once ever? In about 100 years?

Yeah, let's prepare for the virtually non existent possibility statistically speaking.

I never said we should prepare for it. I only said that it sucks that is a possibility. A possibility that the Army apparently thought worthy of notifying servicemen and women of. So, again:

I'm not arguing with you.

Agreed.

Murder is an emotionally salient event. Aside from the obvious point that emotions also serve to aid decision making and there is a reason they were evolutionarily preserved (e.g., survival), I'd agree with you that the media is a fear-machine that makes people overly concerned with events which are either unlikely or out of their control. None of that removes the possibility that a shooting incident could happen, nor does it remove the general suckiness of that idea.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just weird in that I prefer to focus my thoughts on things that matter, or are likely to happen?

Same here, ideally. The thought of a shooter crept into my mind when I went to see TDKR days after Aurora, though, I'll admit.
