The B-52 is one of my favorite planes. I was stationed at Barkdale while I was in the Air force and watching those beast do touch and go maneuvers all day never got old. I may be wrong but didn't they just spend a shitload upgrading the B-52s recently?

It blows my mind we are down to like 430 naval ships of which a third of them aren't even combat vessels.

Given all the water around our country...

But hey...why not build yet another toy for the air force, I mean after the F-35 what could possible go wrong.

Ships of the line and necessary auxiliaries are under 300.

To the OP story...this seems like a massive waste of taxpayers money.

Maybe. Or maybe not.

The thing is that a very big part of the total cost will be part of the rewards of later programs.

In order to fly at all, the B-2 had very large investment costs that this new plane gets the benefit of for free.

I wonder what war-gaming is going on that concludes a need to go bigger. The Spirit (bad plane name, btw) can carry a big conventional payload as is. So the B-21 is a stealth that can carpet-bomb?

If that's the kind of conflict they're preparing for then let's have a new badass black Warthog, too.

We already had a poster post from the cockpit of the old stealth bomber while his wife was in BR getting railed by another poster.

Our nuclear deterrent can not rely upon bombers. Hell, you could get rid of the land-based missiles and we'd be fine with just the boomers--which are the most flexible and survivable option.

No. No. And No.

feel you, Navy. Do the math on how many current generation aircraft carriers could have been built with the money spent on the F-35.

Great. Let's build more carriers that can be taken out with anti-ship missiles like China's DF-21. This isn't WWII. Mark my words; within the next 30 years the carriers will start to go the way of the battleship. Relics of previous wars that will not be viable against near-peer adversaries in the future.

I'm not read-in to any aspects of this aircraft, but I'd be willing to bet you that it is NOT going to be bigger than the B-2. I would bet that it is actually going to be smaller.

Yeah, didn't find dimensions in the article, but figured in replacing the BUFF they were going for more payload/loiter.

And serious about a new A-10.

It will NOT be replacing the B-52.

I'm on your side,
the B-52 is maybe the best all time platform.

Wonder if they're going to run these out of Whiteman AFB like the B-2. That was my last duty station

Virtually every country has radar, no matter how primitive.

True, a new report just out shows that air space surrounds something like 65% of our country though or something along those lines

You think the F-35 is the way it is purely because the Air Force? That's cute
