I 100% believe this.
City has insurance for law suits, so they figure if they make it look like the Feds and State failed them, firing the cops(paying them off), will make it look like BR police and Government took a stand.
Look at this hand, while not looking in the other dealio.

So they broke dept policy, not law?
People are confusing two different processes. The announcement this morning are the findings of the State AG's investigation into the criminality of the officer's acts.
Any firing/employment consequence would come from the BR City police department - an entity separate from the State AG - the legality of which would be governed by city employment contracts.

Exactly. There are basically three parts to this.
If they fire those officers they’ll be receiving a very large payday. It’ll also only further demoralize the rank and file.

That's what I would assume and it wouldn't surprise me if this happens. If they didn't follow department policy on how to handle the situation then that would be grounds for firing, but no charges filed because they didn't break any laws.

If they're fired for violations of department policy, I'm not sure there's anything suit-worthy in their favor. They can appeal the termination to the civil service board and the board can uphold the disciplinary action or reduce it. I think if they get fired by the chief only to have the firing overturned by the board, they get back pay. But I doubt they're looking at some kind of big cash settlement unless the chief and mayor just come right out and say "we're firing the officers because they're white and with no policy violations and solely based on race so please sue."
Brooke and Paul are stupid enough to do this

Sure, posters here may melt online, but they won't block traffic and burn down their own city.
Yeah, wasn't trying to insinuate otherwise.

Anyone have a live feed to the upcoming press conference?

This
I wonder if they will release all the tapes today
I have heard it has to do with what the cops said

The possibility that tea party douche Jeff Landry is going to charge these officers.
The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

And they're about to make bank on the impending lawsuit
It's feasible they could have committed no crime but broken some sort of department policy. Will be interesting to hear how it shakes out.
Personally, after the circus it became, I'm not really sure I'd want to keep that job even if I did nothing wrong.

Broome and Paul are definitely stupid enough to do this. They have to pander to those who put them in power. Sadly, this will likely only further demoralize the BRPD and strengthen the resolve of those in the St. George effort who want to get away from BR's corrupt and incompetent city government.
