Update 11/17: The puppy continues to be a normal, healthy girl. The adopter is lined up to come pick her up Sunday.

Update 11/10/17 11:30 AM: We administered fluids and meds all night. Kept feeding her. She passed some worms this morning instead of just the eggs. Anyway, she’s been eating well. Any is running around the yard with a stick. Just had to fuss at her actually because she started yelping at the neighbor’s dog.

11/9/17: DAMN GOOD NEWS!!!! Got back from school today and she’s straight ballin. Pulled into the drive way and she RAN around the corner to see what it was. She played a little. Wagged her tail. Came when I called her. Licked my finger. Normal puppy stuff, which is just huge news. Called the Vet and they said if she can last long enough to start eating on her own, then there’s a good chance we are out of the woods. I really don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but it’s a damn good sign. Complete 180 from yesterday.

11/9/17: The little girl (Hope, Sonic, ?) was still with us this morning. We monitored her throughout the night and gave her a little food and pedialite. This morning she was still warm, moving around a bit, used the bathroom. No solid, but still no blood. If she was going to take a turn for the worst, I think it would have been last night. We just administered her more fluids, and have her 3 syringes each of egg and pedialite which she still laps up so that’s good. My wife is going to give her more fluids and food on her planning period. I’ll keep y’all updated.

11/8/17

Update: The little girl is still with us. We’re administering fluids and doing all we can.

10:30am- We tested all three pups this morning. Two of the three came back with very strong parvo positive results. The Vet said they’d have about a 10% chance of living and that even if they did pull through, they were looking at a miserable next couple of weeks. I asked the entire staff what they thought I should do. The decision was made to put these two down. I stayed in the room and held them as the euthanasia was administered. I consider myself a pretty tough guy and it was hard to watch. Even though I had no connection to these puppies 3 days ago, I couldn’t help but feel the deepest sadness as I watched them take their last breaths.

The third puppy, a red female, also tested positive for parvo but her test was far more faint than the other two. The staff seemed confident that she might have about a 50/50 shot to still live. I decided that I couldn’t bare to see another puppy of only a few weeks be put down, so I volunteered to get the fluids and administer them over the course of the next few days in hopes that she might pull through. This has been incredibly hard to witness. We feel like we’ve done everything we possibly could have and stepped up when someone else left these guys to die. It’s just hard not to feel like there’s more we could have done. Anyway, the Vet informed us that since we have a lab, that she may be in danger of contracting parvo since the area has been contaminated, even though she’s up to date on her shots. We’re going to foster this girl over the next few days and see if we can get her to pull through. So much thanks to everyone on the OT who has offered encouragement, adopted, assisted with the vet bill, etc.

You guys and girls have been awesome. I’m really hoping we can get her to pull through.

11/8/17 8:38- I’m taking the 3 remaining puppies to be tested at the Coreil clinic in Ville Platte. Total cost is going to be $120. A couple posters have expressed interest in chipping in. If you’d like to, you can call the clinic at 337-363-0157 and let them know that you’d like to put a credit amount towards the parvo tests for the puppies. I’ll be there in 15 minutes.

*** Costs already covered. Thanks, Tigerdroppings!***

Update: Im afraid that I’m a little scared to let anyone else adopt these guys. Unfortunately, the second little girl just tested positive for parvo. She had internal bleeding and was a mess. The choice was made to put her down. Vet said there was nothing he could do. I just don’t think it’s going to be a good idea to adopt these out going forward, unless someone is really willing to take that risk. I hope Skeet and Geauxxx’s are doing better. They both seem to have had better luck thus far. I feel terrible about this. Although there’s nothing more we could have done, I just wish we were able to find them a little sooner.

Some human piece of shite left an entire litter of puppies on the side of the road. Rather than leave them to get ran over one by one, we decided to pick them up. We normally turn them over to a couple of local shelters but figured if anyone was in the market, you could help these guys find a good home.

Not sure about the breed. Looks like hound/maybe shepherd mix. Couldn’t be more than 7-8 weeks old.

***If anyone has any suggestions for good shelters that can take them in, that’d be helpful. The one we normally go through when this happens still hasn't gotten back with us. We'd like to find them homes ASAP!

Edit 6:20pm
They’ve been bathed, fed, and watered. 8 puppies left. The local shelter is going to find fosters for as many as they can, but we’re still trying to find as many homes as possible. Skeet should be here any minute to get 1 or 2.

Edit 7:53PM: Skeet made it to my house and just picked up 2. Props to that dude. 6 left.

Update: 11/6/17 11:40 AM
Geauxxxtigers23 just got one for his kid. Thanks man. 5 left.

Update: 6:35 PM

Another one has been adopted and is going to a good home.

Down to 4 but wellkellsbells is supposed to pick theirs up on Wednesday.

Update again 11/7/17 11:55 AM: Skeet let me know that the pups have tested negative for Parvo. Geuxxx has let me know that the Vet told him she’s showing no symptoms of parvo. One girl, who adopted one last night did let me know that her pup, however, did test positive and will have to be put down. Just wanted to keep this updated and be honest with the board.

Have a Shepherd mix that was in a similar situation around that age, and he turned out to be the best dog I've ever had. Hope these little guys find homes.

I don't know where you are, but if you were in Baton Rouge, I would say give them over to the Friends of Baton Rouge group. It's where my s/o and I got our second puppy. He was a rescue that they saved. They had him updated for shots, fixed, microchiped, fat, happy and healthy. The puppy and all his siblings were adopted quickly by good people.

At the moment he's curled up on the couch next to our other dog, passed the frick out.

We’ve tried relocating other dogs we’ve found abandoned to some of the shelters in BR or NO but most of them require the dogs to be found in BR and won’t take them if you don’t have a BR address.

Will this group?

You would have to call and ask, but I can't imagine they would turn a litter a puppies away. Apart from a humanitarian stand point, puppies are good for business. More people would be likely to adopt young puppies and contribute to the cause.

We recently called all the shelters in BR and if you don't have a BR address they won't take them.

I'm not saying you should find a friend to lie for you and say he found it in BR, but that's definitely not something you should do.

Total POS to just drop animals off like that. You are a great human for doing what you did. Good karma headed your way.

Good for you

We are picking up another set of Foster puppies today here in Alabama.
Probably was the result of another piece of shite, too.

If you have any towels or blankets that you don't mind them getting on, you should lay some down under them so they can huddle up together and sleep on.
