How so? As in it's too cushy and civilian like?

In the USAF do officers choose their path or do they just get plugged in where it's needed?
All the branches use the Academies first, then ROTC to fill their officers. Then enlisted guys that got degrees and volunteers. They have a lot of money invested in guys they put through college, so basically anyone new is going to fill whatever left over positions they need filled.
This is why I would highly recommend you talk to all branches. You could luck out and get a great gig in the Navy because they have a huge need for something that none of other branches will take you with, and you get stuck doing something boring in the AF.
Just remember, there's a ton of jobs out there. Only a small percentage of Air Force officers actually fly and there are tons of guys in the Navy that don't spend much time on a boat. The navy has civil engineering too and they aren't on a submarine, just saying.

I definitely get that I probably should have tried harder in college. Kinda kicking myself over it, but there's not a whole lot I can do about that part now. Best bet wouldn't be to just demonstrate my intelligence on their tests, in the interviews, or just find another way to make myself an attractive candidate.

I worked on an AFB when I got out of the army and the way I would most often hear it described as is "too corporate". Disclaimer, the AF folks I worked with all had office jobs so it could also just be that. It was also the Air War College so a lot of politics at play. Never really spent time around army clerk/finance type people and they might make the same complaint. AF has some jobs that, no doubt, feel very military.

Yeah I really wouldn't want to go into a corporate setting, I've got that now and make better money doing what I'm doing.

I agree. From personal experience the USAF recruiter told me it would be slim on my shot at OTS. I went to the USCG recruiter and they were thrilled with me, sans my criminal history. Oops.

That's good insight. I'll take a deeper look at the other branches. Start wide and narrow down based on the feasible possibilities.

Would a 3.3 gpa in CM from LSU be technical enough and competitive enough for pilots?
I have known Air Force pilots who have degrees in Zoology, Literature, and Electronics Technology from ITT.
ProTip: Even Though there is a lot of glamor in being a fighter pilot. Heavies make an easier transition back to civilian world. If you want the excitement and heavy experience; you are looking to fly an AC-130, AFSOC, stationed at Hurlbert Field and other undisclosed locations near you.

I'd obviously love to fly F-22's or blackhawks in the army. I do realize that everyone and their brother wants to d that too. Just gna have to see what the recruiters say and what my best odds are.

I had a guy in my unit with a degree in musical theater who went to OCS and got branched in signal.

USCG takes a lot of flack for obvious reasons. But it's chill and you can do very well after your service in the civilian world with the certificates you will obtain.
Good luck, young sir.

I am not an Army Vet, but from my understanding Warrant Officers fly Blackhawks.

I have no idea why they take flack, other than they aren't the first to come to mind.

The Marine Corps offers guaranteed flight school slots if you qualify.

What can you fly in the Marines?

If you have a degree in Construction Management I would look into the Navy SeaBee's (Construction Battalion). The main SeaBee bases are in Gulfport, MS and Port Hueneme, CA. They rarely, if ever, go on ships.

Without reading every page, isn't there an age limit for joining?
I know the USAF doesn't take people past their late 20's. When I was studying at the DLI there was Ann Army guy in his mid-40's that had just signed up. Maybe bc of the field (cryptological linguist) he was needed (he was a native speaker with U.S. citizenship.
