Because they were posted to Twitter. Twitter compresses all video on its platform. So, you end up with potato-vision on a video that was recorded in whatever super duper high res definition is leading the pack these days.

The iPhone UI controls in the Twitter video are clearly higher resolution than the source video. The person using that iPhone is definitely using a really shitty source video to begin with, before uploading to Twitter.

Just because you once lived in a state and you see a vehicle with plates from that state does not make it some destined "Won't you be my neighbor" moment you insufferable twats! Leave people alone. States are pretty damn big and people come and go from them all the time. Being from a state that I once lived in does not give you permission to come up to my van down by the river and knock on the window.
