Interesting that Trump hasn’t got the US involved somehow to save these kids.
He’s not going to let Elon Musk upstage him
US military has been involved since early on. I'm no Trump fan, but I think it's admirable that he's stayed out of it publicitywise.

A team of 36 U.S. troops from Okinawa, Japan, has been dispatched to Thailand to assist in efforts to rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach stranded for nearly two weeks in a cave near the Thailand-Myanmar border, according to a report by Task & Purpose.
The troops include a search and rescue team, a survival expert and support personnel. They were deployed by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa after the Royal Thai government requested U.S. assistance on June 26, Army Lt. Col. David Eastburn told T&P.
The U.S. service members are working alongside the Thai military and an international search and rescue team to devise methods to rescue the children and their coach from the Tham Luang Cave complex.

U.S. Pacific Command has dispatched 36 service members from Okinawa to Thailand to assist with efforts to rescue 12 boys from a Thai soccer team and their coach, who have been trapped in a cave complex since June 23, a Pentagon spokesman told Task & Purpose.
The troops include a search and rescue team, a survival expert, and support personnel who were deployed after the Royal Thai government requested U.S. assistance on June 26, said Army Lt. Col. David Eastburn.
U.S. military assets in Thailand responded to the scene immediately, but they did not have the right gear for the mission, prompting PACOM to send the search and rescue team, which arrived on Thailand on June 28, Eastburn told Task & Purpose.
Two MC-130s from Okinawa transported the search and rescue personnel to Thailand, Eastburn said on Tuesday. The planes and support personnel initially remained in U-Tapao, Thailand after dropping off the search and rescue team. It was not clear on Tuesday if they had returned to Okinawa.
Airmen with the 353rd Special Operations Group and the 31st Rescue Squadron, both stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, are among the U.S. troops helping with the rescue efforts, according to the 18th Wing.
“The American people join Thais in celebrating the dramatic discovery of the soccer team and their coach in Tham Luang Cave,” said U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Glyn T. Davies in a statement. “We will continue to support Thai authorities in their relentless efforts to bring the 12 players and their coach safely out of the cave and reunite them with their families.”

That’s great.
My point is. Trump would love to take credit for saving these kids.
He’s not going to let Elon Musk one up him.

That’s incredible that those kids went through those tiny passages to end up where they are now.

They’ve blocked off the entrance with tarps so you can’t see in and have stationed lots of ambulances/helicopters around it. I think the rescue attempt may be underway.

Flexible kid submarine. Not sure that is going to be feasible.

Can anyone tell me how they got food and supplies to the group? I thought they had but how? Super super ziplock type bags? Not joking.

Well, darn, I hoped someone had news from Thailand.

Not yet. Likely moving them over next couple days.

Link to article with input from divers- SIAP.
These divers are incredibly brave. I’m hoping for a miracle - no more deaths, and all reunited with their families in next 72 hours.

Interviews with the most experienced of the 140 or so cave divers from Thailand and around the world who are here to help have centered on a stark fact: This was already one of the most difficult cave-diving challenges in the world, and now they must somehow keep the weakened boys reasonably healthy in oxygen-depleted air while trying to teach them to attempt an underwater escape. One cave diver called it the underground equivalent of climbing Mount Everest — but with no guides to make things easier.
Ben Reymenants, a Belgian cave diver who operates a dive shop in Thailand, was part of the group that first found the boys on Monday, after more than a week of searching. He said the muddy current pushing against him on his initial dive felt as powerful as the Colorado River’s.
“You’re literally pulling yourself, hand over hand, in zero visibility,” Mr. Reymenants, 45, recalled in a telephone interview. “You can’t read your depth gauge, you can’t read the time, so you’re basically flying blind in a direction you don’t know.”

Media outlets were evacuated from the surrounding site early on Saturday, although no reason was given.
Odd.

It can be packed in ziplock type bags and they mentioned a edible gel that the kids had been given. I am sure they have given them other nutrients, calories and fluids but don't want to overload them on food.
(Some people even throw up while scuba diving. A guy we dove with always puked thru his regulator and then was fine. Gross but it happens and can be an issue. But these kids will be in different type masks so I am not sure if that is better or worse for the puke factor.
Otherwise though, scubadivers eat a varieties of food underwater. They do it while doing safety stops after a deep dive where they remain underwater stationary waiting to ascend. they can pass the time eating candy bars (chocolate, nut, caramel types were good to go, gogurts and reading national geographic (it remains intact and readable underwater.

I think they might have done this bc the disruption, distraction, and stress the media crowd might cause the rescuers.
Possibly out of respect if they fear dead bodies might be coming out of the cave in the next 24 hours.

Good reasoning. Makes sense.

Gonna just ignore the idiots and continue focusing on the kids and have faith that sometimes miracles do happen.
They described the water as "cold coffee" meaning it just muddy water with no visibility (like coffee with cream but thicker.
I am extremely interested in the communication methods used with the kids thru the tightest and tightest passages. I dont know if the masks will allow for any communication method and they can't see hand signal under the water. I would really hope there would be some communication but i just don't know.
I was thinking they would have a rescue guy go first but go feet first and back out. This allows him to be face-to-face with the child (with hand to hand contact) who will follow him as the rescue backs thru with the tanks on him and the child using the rescuers tanks.
Other people are obviously positioned in places along the way where they have stations/check points set up.

Here at the cave site, there are signs they are preparing for what could be a rescue attempt. They've cleared the street that leads up to the cave, and put up a big green sign that warns about explosions and oxygen tanks. We don't know for sure what they are going to do but they are clearly going to do something.

As to the numerical date of the action...international date line may have us thinking tomorrow is today's date. Late Sat night US time is not the right time to be working out IDL conversions, sorry.
