That's mainly due to recency bias. After the past two Summers in south Louisiana anything that is close to Normal will feel unusually cool by comparison. July has been slightly above Normal for most of the area.
Meanwhile, to your east we have had a pretty hot July so far, running ~3° above Normal, even at night.

Exactly. Basically everyone i hang out with voted for Trump and not a single one of them would bat an eye if i said Gulf of Mexico. There seems to be a small segment of poli board posters that are overly concerned with it. Maybe because its the only W they can take away from these past few months.
Are we gonna suspend the tariffs another month when August hits?

Me personally, nothing. I can do a quick search for fentanyl deaths and other deaths associated with overdosing on drugs from Mexico. Would you like that? Or how about the cartel killings? The beheadings? The human trafficking? Which would you like me to start with? What about the amount of raw sewage that is dumped into the gulf rather than being dealt with like the rest of the civilized world?
