Surgery was L4-L5 severely ruptured/herniated disc. It's the worst sciatica pain I've ever had in my life. I'm 2 weeks post surgery and I can only walk about 2 minutes before I nearly collapse. Sitting is the only thing that doesn't hurt. Laying in bed is just terrible.

My God, that is hell. Prayers to you.

My l4 l5 is herniated and pinching all the nerves coming out of the spinal cord, inoperable, Doc ( neurosurgeon) says I'd die on the table during surgery.
Goddman, dude. Please get a second opinion. You can't live like that for decades.

I had the same surgery in December 2021. Fast forward to April 2022 and I am in more pain than before the surgery. I am talking excruciating pain where i am cursing and screaming whenever I put weight on my left leg. They finally do an MRI to find out that I had a staph infection in my spine from the surgery in December 2021. After months of IV antibiotics, they had to do a two-level fusion in July 2022 because the staph infection was eating away at my spine. i then had to basically learn to walk again using a walker for a few months and then a cane until November 2022. Much better now but 2022 was a year from hell.

I have suffered from back pain for decades like many of you. It comes and goes in severity but the worst times are incapacitating. I’ve had epidurals, facet injections, nerve burns, PT, etc etc. been scheduled for surgery many times and always backed out.

I am never pain free but I’ve been managing for many years now with cannabis. I won’t say it’s a miracle but it does work and I live a normal active life. It’s been so long since I’ve been to the ortho I don’t even remember what the diagnosis was exactly…he showed me the x rays and MRI and I saw the disc issues. For those of you suffering it’s certainly an option you should consider

Its the most hidden useful natural item we have and its still fought tooth and nail.

I wouldve never in my wildest dreams thought about saying this after taking DARE in 4th grade. Crock of shite. Weve been lied to for many many years and most of the older generation is still wrong in how they view alcohol and mary jane. Sad really.

You have to find the right doctor. I fought the pain and doctors for about ten years before getting the right guy. Doc just looked at the MRI and said this is what we do. He fixed my back.

No more pain meds and a big F U to a couple of docs that basically wanted to label me a drug addict rather than find and fix my problem. I went back and saw one of them after I was better. That was a fun conversation! In my surgery, my doc said he has suspected something from the MRI and confirmed my facet was broken and out of place and compounding the disc issues. Thanks other shitty docs for catching that!

My problem now is that my doc retired. It’s been over 10 years since my surgery and I’m good but there is always a worry in the back of my head that it will come back and my doc is gone. It’s hard to trust anyone else after what I went through.

We have been lied to about pretty much everything. Health, religion, politics. You name it. It’s all twisted to aggregate power and money into the hands of a few.

Very very well said! It’s very easy to see who, in this thread, has never experienced the unrelenting pain a very bad back. The sufferer is desperate for any relief. The most important aspect of the operation is obviously choosing the very best surgeon. It is obvious you chose wisely. If you don’t mind my asking, who did you utilize?

I’m in this field. Find another doctor.

Have talked to a lot of people who have had discectomies and almost all say they are much better as soon as the surgery is over with of course a little soreness. This isn't normal at all

This.

I had the same surgery in 2003. Literally needed a walker to drag my arse to the hospital for surgery.

3:00 that afternoon, walked to the car. Sciatic pain was GONE. Once in a while I feel a twinge. When I do, I lay flat with my legs up high enough that my arse is slightly elevated.

That pulls the tension off the disc. After an hour, all good.

I hope you get relief soon.
