Yeah. If I won all I'd buy is some land. Build a house for myself, parents, and in laws on it. Buy a townhome in BR. Set myself up with lsu season tickets across the board. Buy a boat, jet skies, and some atvs.
Then just put the rest in the bank earning a modest rate and live off the interest.
Extended family wouldn't get shite.

Idiots all around.
I'm taking lump sump payout, taking 50k to take a trip to both NYC for a week and then universal studios for a week. The rest of the lump sum would be dumped in a trust that is locked away for a year while I continue to work and speak to advisers on how best to invest the money. After that, I'd rather live off the interest but continue to work doing what I do now which is something I love.

I've always said, if having money changes what you want to accomplish in life, or what you love....then you're probably not doing it right.

Ehh. I might set up some education accounts for some of my cousins' kids. That's relatively inexpensive. If those frickers tried to get me to invest money into stupid business ideas or float them hundreds of thousands of dollars or more then I'd tell them to go frick themselves. Then again I don't think this would be a huge problem because most if not all of my family isn't trash, and they can already take care of themselves.

if you won 800 million or whatever the lump sum is, you would go to universal studios?
Posted on 1/13/16 at 8:33 pm to tiggerthetooth
I see no "curse", just idiots acting like idiots with the money.

Right, that's all you're going to do. Once you get a taste of life outside of Baton Rouge and Olive Garden your tastes are going to change. Townhome in Aspen, key west, London, Paris, etc.

I think it would be fascinating to work at the lottery office...pretty much every week you would see some regular person walk in to the office with not much more than a little spending cash in their wallet and walk out with many millions of dollars at their disposal...

quote:I saw a documentary about lottery winners a while back called "Lucky", I think it was an HBO documentary. It touched on a few winners and their stories. Anyways, they followed "Bud's" story and it was crazy. Like if he found a pair of pants he liked, he would buy 500 of them, same with tools and other random things. Pretty sure I recall him throwing a female companion's jewelry he bought her in the pool and then filling it with QuickSet Cement. CRAAAAZY.

Yup. We are very simple people. We have been wealthy and we have been poor, now are back to being wealthy, but quite frankly we have realized a long time ago what makes us happy. We would just go all out at Universal studios. Sounds stupid but it would be quite a bit more fun than we already have had going there.

People say to buy homes everywhere. Why not just rent a place for a week.
I really would be happy with a fully tricked out airstream and new gmc diesel to pull it around the country b

Michael Carroll was at his peak when he won Britain's £9.7 million ($15 million) jackpot in 2002, The Daily Mail reports.
But a penchant for life in the fast lane — cocaine, parties, hookers, and cars — put him back at square one in five years.

Yeah these are the people who win 15M once and spend like they just won 15M a year for life.
Pretty easy to avoid this shite if you arent a full retard.

In 2002, West Virginia building contractor Andrew Jackson Whittaker Jr. walked away with $114 million after taxes on a $315 million multi-state Powerball draw. That was just about his last stroke of good fortune. In two separate instances, thieves ran off with $745,000 Whittaker stashed in his car. Later on, he was sued by Caesar's Atlantic City for allegedly bouncing $1.5 million in checks. Within four years, his fortune was gone.
That's crazy. I mean I can somewhat "understand" - not entirely, but it doesn't surprise me - the people that blow through a couple million... But that's straight up nuts to blow thorough 100 million in 4 years.

If you're gonna lose it anyway, why not buy cars, party, do cocaine, and bang hookers?
I'm not saying that's a small amount of money, but it is "small" when someone doesn't know what they're doing with it. frick, I could drop $15MM in a couple of hours if I were an idiot

Doesnt sound dumb at all to me. It means the money wouldnt change you. If you did change it, does that mean you really never wanted to go to Universal studios? Or you simply were going because you could afford it? I wouldnt go for those reasons.

the worse thing that ever happened to that family, it put a couple of them in the grave and helped contribute to many local strippers substance abuse problems

A lot of these people seem simply dumb as frick. Who keeps $500,000 or $745,000 cash in their fricking car? Why? What are you going to buy?
Apparently he had a weakness for hookers. I'm sure going to the bank become a hassle. And those damn ATMs never let you take out want you need
Posted on 1/13/16 at 9:01 pm to tiggerthetooth
They all have one thing in common. They're idiots with zero idea of how to manage their finances.

Yea it's pretty sad that people win like a few million (or less) and quit their job and shite when they are like under 50 years old.
I guess it's hard for people to wrap their head around the fact that they can't really ball out at all if they are trying to make a few million last decades without working another day in their life.
Like the people who win 300k or so after taxes and quit their job and buy two or 3 vehicles in week 1. Like do they really not understand that kinda shite guarantees that they will be worse off than before within like a year or two?
