I'm surprised the fires are already out. Did they bring it more water hoses or did they just let it die out?

What amazes me is that our govt sticks their nose in every other country's problems, and now theres live proof of people getting mistreated, etc. and they want nothing to do with it.

To be fair, we haven't stood completely on the sidelines.

Per the NY Times:
quote:

The United States and the European Union have made no secret that their sympathies are with the protesters, who poured out into Independence Square after Mr. Yanukovich abruptly announced in November that he would not sign a pact aligning Ukraine more closely with the European Union. Western diplomats have visited the Maidan, and Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland of the United States even handed out bread on the square in December. Russia, which was strongly opposed to the European pact, has predictably accused the West of egging on the demonstrators.

quote:

The State Department’s warning — plus an announcement by the American Embassy in Kiev that it was revoking the visas of several unnamed officials responsible for actions taken against protesters in November and December — was a good start. It also must be prepared to follow through on its promise to consider “additional steps in response to the use of violence by any actors.”

And McCain spoke with the protesters last month.

You would think with Russia right there, we would be involved significantly to try and push democracy instead of them adapting to the Russians policies.

Edit: I didn't know about McCain and stuff. Seems we haven't been quite turning our heads at this.

Berkut shoot journalists and photographers. They have special vests that say PRESS, but last two days they're not wearing it, because it's safer that way.
Berkut tortures innocent people. They found two construction workers (not a protesters) near the site they stand, stripped them, shot they in the back with rubber bullets, tortured with cold water and threw out at cold winter day.
Berkut tortured 17-year old guy with a knife in his arse
Berkut shoot at medics. Two people died today, because they shot at medics that tried to help wounded.
Berkut uses duct tape and nails to make their flash grenades into frag grenades.
Berkut throw Molotov cocktails at people, even they have shotguns, flash grenades, tear gas, rubber bullets and so on.
Berkut uses cold water cannon, even it's illegal to use it when the temperature drops lower than 5 degrees Celsius.
-should be noted that it was been allowed by the ukrainian govt. , but is still against international law
Berkut's motto: Security of the people — is the biggest law.

Yushchenko was awarded Dole Leadership Prize in the USA:

WTF

And there's more to this Dole connection. Paul Manafort, a former top aide to Dole was hired to makeover Yushchenko.

Another WTF:

Yuschenko =/= Yanukovich

Yuschenko was that guy that was poisoned by Russia back during the 2004 Orange Revolution.

But yeah, political strategists, like musicians performing at dictator birthday parties, often take their talents abroad to work foreign elections with some shady characters.

Longtime lobbyist Charles Black Jr. is John McCain's man in Washington, a political maestro who hopes to guide his friend, the senator from Arizona, to the presidency this November.

But for half a decade in the 1980s, Black was also Jonas Savimbi's man in the capital city. His lobbying firm received millions from the brutal Angolan guerrilla leader and took advantage of Black's contacts in Congress and the White House.
