I'm guessing the Yanukovitch government hired them to make sure that we don't get drawn into this as well if people take out their frustrations on the US. Even though these are fairly cosmopolitan protesters, there's always a few bad apples. Look at how anti-American the young, liberal Egyptian nationalists were last summer. We're "The Man," so to speak.
