UGA may have found way to expel racist teaching assistant

Posted on 5/6/19 at 11:02 am
after he said ‘some white people may have to die’ for black communities
And for the part that should really wake people up
Now, I ask you, how many white people affiliated with universities expressing their personal opinion have gotten fired, or kicked out of school for much much less egregious remarks regarding race?
And that folks, is why if we leave race relations in the hands of people like this at this university, it will never move past where it is at present, but in fact get much worse over time.
When you lambast one and refuse to call out another, much worse I might add,you can expect nothing good to come from it in the future.
You want to know what’s wrong with this country? Here it is. This is the root of the problem.

The University of Georgia may have found a way to expel teaching assistant Irami Osei-Frimpong after the TA went viral in January for saying that some white people might have to die in order to make black communities whole.
quote:
Osei-Frimpong, who is a philosophy teaching assistant at the university, said on Facebook that "some white people may have to die for black communities to be made whole in this struggle to advance freedom."
In the January Facebook post, the TA said that anyone who disagreed with his remarks was "ahistorical and dangerously naive."
He ended up deleting the post after receiving backlash, but it wasn't the first time he made this type of inflammatory remark. He made similar remarks in 2017, and Facebook ultimately suspended his account. He insisted that remarks about white people dying for black people "should not be controversial."
And for the part that should really wake people up
quote:
The University of Georgia did not openly condemn Osei-Frimpong's remarks and did not take any action against him at the time.
quote:
A spokesperson for the college said that he simply expressed his "personal opinion" in a "personal capacity."

The solution here is to not call out either. Freedom of speech is a thing.

I’m not for this what so ever, but how will this play out with Trumps freedom of speech on campus. Does this get considered a hate crime and negate freedom of speech, or does freedom of speech trump all.

And I'll do likewise....GFY Irami and eat a large bag of AIDS infected dicks

So they gave a super PC statement while working behind to scenes for a way to kick him out on a technicality and you still melt?
His freedom of speech is protected on what I believe is a state school right? So they found another way to get rid of him. Sounds like a win.

It’s the blatant hypocrisy of who gets awarded freedom of speech and who gets tarred, feathers and kicked out of town for speaking their mind. That’s what is utterly absurd. You want to treat people equally, then start doing it, or don’t and have no credibility.

Yes, let's have a state school come out publicly against a student/employees free speech rights. That's a great look. It's a government entity. No harm there.
They gave a PC answer which left them in the clear and found another way to get rid of him. How is this so bad? This isn't a private company-employee relationship.

I have no problem with him claiming free speech, or sharing his revolting racist sentiments and keeping his job My problem, AGAIN, is with the inconsistency of it when a racist white person says something racist and is fired. Just be consistent.

I don't remember this happening with a government entity.
I see nothing wrong with this as there are clearly significant hoops the university has to jump through to get rid of him. If it was as easy as "you're racist, bye" it would be done by now. They've found a technicality they can get him on and pursued it.

You don’t remember a public teacher being fired for making racist remarks?

You got an example of this happening to a white person or conservative at a state university?

Why are there Philosophy TAs?
Seriously, it's not like engineering or computer science or chemistry. Those professors actually have research responsibilities.
