Hypothetical: you are in a driverless car, and someone walks into the road. The car can either hit the person, or swerve into a ditch, possibly killing you. What are cars going to be programmed to do in these situations?

I would program the vehicle to simply apply maximum safe braking in a straight line.
In this real case,at only 40mph both the driver and the radar/lidar should have easily avoided this accident. The dark video makes it seem she just appeared out of nowhere.
Drive tonight at 40mp on a street with no oncoming traffic. Easily avoidable.
