Robbing Peter to pay Paul -- the liberal way since 1933.
Actually, this UT scholarship is issued on a blind rolling standard for valedictorians, so you really can't blame UT or the girl for the way this occurred, although spiking the football on Twitter is obviously an idiotic move (valedictorian?). The blame lies with this country's emasculated immigration system, and also with our gerrymandered public school systems. Just remember to vote in November if you are fed up with this stuff...

Same thing happened in DFW this week. But the girl and her family came here on a visa 7 years ago and have been trying to get citizenship for that long. She's going to Yale. The live report of this mentioned that the US government is still working on citizenship requests from 1996.
Be pissed off at government inefficiency, not the kid.

I bet this just speeds up their citizenship process now.
It really is the government's fault for taking 5-10 years for some of these cases, but as long as her family is TRYING to get shite done, there's not a huge difference between her and most 'international' students who come in and make all A's on our dime.
Just don't post it on social media because now she'll feel the backlash.

Further proof that just because you're a good student or "book smart" doesn't mean you're actually smart.

Scary thought?

I'm pretty OK with it. She earned the grades fair and square while holding a part time job with a legit company who withheld taxes from her pay checks. It's not necessarily her fault for being undocumented. She's just a kid.
I agree - she is a "keeper" so let's keep her.

without ruining their lives. She learned that lesson the hard way.
Woah Nelly - going a bit far don't you think? Not sure this will ruin her life!

what is she referring to when she means "undocumented"?
You can become a lawful permanent resident (green card) if you have documents: an I.D. card, Passport issued by your home country, birth certificate, and a Visa issued by your home country and stamped by the ICE. It took my wife about a year to get her Green Card after we got married, and that is considered fast. If you have some-or none-of these documents, you can try and apply, but you are at the back of the line. The wait can stretch for years, and during that time you risk being deported.
I'm betting this girl does not have a Mexican passport, ID, or visa. She can get a passport and a visa at her local Mexican Consulate, but not without a Mexican ID (in this case it would be her Mexican Voter's I.D. card) and they don't issue those at consulates.
ETA: You can get them renewed at consulates, not issued first-time. My wife and I had to go to the Mexican Consulate in New Orleans to renew her passport just recently.

A private school will probably take her now.

Except for the "eff you" mentality she has about the country that has given her everything.

I'll pay for her tuition if she will raise our children.

She could be 18 or 24 or 28. Who knows. It's whatever she says.
That's the problem with letting in all these illegals. Once the Democrats legalize them, there will be swarms of people who are in their 40s, 50s and early 60s applying for Social Security benefits.
Who is to say otherwise? We'll turn our heads, like we always do.

I'm sure she has a birth certificate, unless she plopped out in the desert on the trip up here.

maybe her family can get a job and send her to beauty college.

She might have a Mexican birth certificate, but why would she show it if she didn't have to? And she never will have to.

Has anyone posted that Trump Cartoon from the link in the OP yet?
