Terrible, they were three and the mother was supposedly looking for them, trying to figure out how they got into truck.

Terrible news to hear on Father's Day

Hate to think it.
But my money is on the mom put them there and called neighbors looking for them to "cover her tracks".
3 yr olds are crafty but I find it hard to believe that both got away at the same time and into a locked car for hours.
Hope I am wrong.

I was going to ask, never had kids, I wonder how old they were exactly, just turning three to almost 4 is a big leap in development.

My son is 3 1/2. I can't fathom how something like this would occur. Terrible to hear.

This exact same thing happened in Houston earlier this week. Not twins, though.

My question is how do toddlers get into a truck like that? I have a similar truck and it's much higher off the ground than a car and I've had adults have trouble getting in, much less 3 year olds

Those kids did not get in that truck together, by themselves.
Think about......

And what kind of parents don't know where their 3 yr olds are every minute of everyday?
If they're outsid playing great, but shouldn't they be in the back? If they have a big front yard great, but shouldn't you be checking in on them every 3-5 minutes?
Everybody knows kids are loud when they're playing and/or swimming.

I have twins that are now 13 and I can remember when they were around 3 years old. They could get into way more crap when they were together than you could believe. It's like they were constantly trying to one up the other.
Don't know what happened in this case, but nothing twins do would surprise me.
I sure feel for the family. If I would have lost my twins like that I don't know if I could have survived.

I think you'd be surprised by how many parents should not have kids.

I don't think 3 year olds could reach the door handle on that truck. This story is bullshite.

Don't they say it only takes something like 8-11 minutes ?

Hell no , if they are outside she should have been out there with the kids under her supervision at all times ....
You know how much can happen in 3 to 5 minutes ...

I still have a hard time buying them getting into the truck alone. I agree that kids can get into some stuff, but my daughter just turned 5 and she cannot open my truck door. It is not for lack of effort...
Regardless, I hope this is just an accident.

The Houston kid went out to look for a toy. Could get into car by himself but child safety doors were too much for him. Still can't wrap my head around not knowing where he is for that long at that age.
Nodding off for a 2:00 nap always terrified me. We have a pool though so we have Hotel locks on our doors, mounted high. By the time he can open them he'll be 12.
I CAN see forgetting infants. Early on they are a disruption in all your routines. If something further disrupts that new baby routine, it can happen. Went to nursing school with a girl and she did it. New baby, big test, and a switch to babysitter for the day. fricked her up. She totally forgot.
Luckily it was 8AM and only about 15-20 mins before somebody walked by and they ran her plate and got her. No ill effects.
ER in Houston though an old work buddy I worked with. A woman upstairs picked up an extra shift. Routine got screwed up. Forgot her child for a whole shift. She ran into their ER screaming with a stiff baby, "HE'S GOT RIGOR!!!" Horrendous.

A friend knows the family and supposedly one of the kids was in the hospital recently. Hoping this was just an accident.

Or pull the door shut once inside

Yeah, it's hard to believe. Those poor babies. If it was intentional she should receive the death penalty.
