Just buy some good turmeric powder. The pills are a rip off. Take with black pepper too to increase absorption.

approximately 5% of the spice turmeric is composed of an active compound called curcumin, about 5% of black pepper by weight is comprised of this compound called piperine. Curcumin is responsible for the yellow color of turmeric and piperine for the pungent flavor of pepper. Piperine is a potent inhibitor of drug metabolism. One of the ways our liver gets rid of foreign substances is making them water soluble so they can be more easily excreted. But this black pepper molecule inhibits that process.
And it doesn’t take much. If people are given a bunch of turmeric curcumin, within an hour there’s a little bump in the level in their blood stream. We don’t see a large increase because our liver is actively trying to get rid of it. But what if the process is suppressed by taking just a quarter teaspoon’s worth of black pepper? Then you see curcumin levels skyrocket (See Boosting the Bioavailability of Curcumin). The same amount of curcumin consumed, but the bioavailability shoots up 2000%. Even just a little pinch of pepper—1/20th of a teaspoon—can significantly boost levels. And guess what a common ingredient in curry powder is besides turmeric? Black pepper.
Another way to boost the absorption of curcumin is to consume it in the whole food, turmeric root (fresh or dried as a powder) because natural oils found in turmeric root and turmeric powder can enhance the bioavailability of curcumin seven to eight fold. When eaten with fat, curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system thereby in part bypassing the liver.

So, 2,000mg a day? That sounds like a lot.

From what I understand, your body doesn't absorb it well, so most of it passes through. You can increase fat intake to help.

The studies that have shown positive therapeutic effects, like reducing inflammation, say you need 650mg twice per day, IIRC.
Add to that the questionable absorption/bioavailability, 2000 mg per day isn't really overdoing it.

From the NIH
Turmeric
quote:
Efficacy
-Claims that curcuminoids found in turmeric help to reduce inflammation aren’t supported by strong studies.
-Preliminary studies found that curcuminoids may reduce the number of heart attacks bypass patients had after surgery
-Control knee pain from osteoarthritis as well as ibuprofen did
-Reduce the skin irritation that often occurs after radiation treatments for breast cancer.
-Other preliminary studies in people have looked at curcumin, a type of curcuminoid, for different cancers, colitis, diabetes, surgical pain, and as an ingredient in mouthwash for reducing plaque.
-The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) has studied curcumin for Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and prostate and colon cancer.
Safety
-Turmeric in amounts tested for health purposes is generally considered safe when taken by mouth or applied to the skin.
-High doses or long-term use of turmeric may cause gastrointestinal problems.

Does it help
Don't know. I don't have any known medical condition or ailment, nor any before and after blood work, so I have no real testimonial.
Just taking it for prevention of who knows what.

Tumeric, Fish Oil, and Ginger are all supposed to help with inflammation. I taken all three and have for some time.
