If you are into things like the mineing museum you should have stopped by Tannehill Ironworks state park. Its about halfway between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham would be another place to check out.

Friend,

Walker County, AL is the murder-for-hire capital of Alabama. There is no reason to ever be there EVER unless trying to get someone killed, buying meth, or visiting Smith Lake.

Friend,

I am sorry I missed your post, where you said you were headed toward south Alabama and the Fish River Christmas tree farm.

The exit from I-10 onto H181/H27 is Number 38 The Malbis exit. It is the second exit after crossing Mobile Bay. You could take the first exit, (H98) at Spanish Fort, which goes through Daphne and down the east side of Mobile Bay. However, the second exit (the Malbis Exit) is much more interesting to me, since it passes right by the Greek Orthodox Church. Seeing it always makes me feel good. We are not Greek Orthodox, but have friends who are. It is a beautiful church (inside) and they are always happy to walk you through the interior. Their men of the cloth look striking - not at all like Baptist Pastors. We have a Greek Orthodox Church in Clinton and I should go visit one Sabbath - maybe when the plague passes.

I beg you to not miss the pitcher plant bog. It will be 30-45 minutes well spent. (The parking lot is directly across Fish River Road from the bog. The lot is crushed rock, but stable and a good place to park. If you stop, DO NOT fail to walk to the end of the walkway through the bog. The view of Weeks Bay from the observation point pier is memorable (take your camera) and the walk through/above the bog is very enjoyable.

You will see a fenced in area as you turn onto Fish River Road off H98, toward the bog. That fenced in area is where Friendship Oak was located, at one time. Maybe 20 years ago, some Doofus Alabama guy poisoned that famous "Oldest Tree in Alabama" and killed it, Just like the guy did to the oaks at Auburn. I guess that must be an Alabama thing. Regardless, I don't know what would entice someone to kill a hundred(s) year old tree with Herbicide.

We have no firm plans for a trip to south Alabama, but will go that way during December. Maybe we'll see you at Jesse's. I will be the old white haired geezer at the table with the beautiful lady. You might miss me, but never her.

Your Oyster Guy is Lsumailman61. He is a good guy and you will like him, and his oysters. If you go by Billy's, Tell them I sent you and enjoy your lump crab meat. Their oysters are excellent (very fresh) also.

Wishing you a merry advent season, safe travels and fruitful camera work.

Caution! Sloss Furnaces is Haunted! Do not go at night, or when the sunlight is failing.

I just sat here in a parking lot and read the entirety of his 3-4 post OP.

I need to find a wife or something.

Solid Post and thread. I enjoyed the pictures and thoughts as you traveled my home state. Pay no attention to the naysayers here. You are appreciated by many. Wishing you safe travels, friend.

Meridian Dog,

I must apologize that we have thus far been unable to visit lower Baldwin and explore those fair fields. Christmas this year did not open to us a window for going to that Christmas tree farm, but I do very much look forward to following in your footsteps on that same pilgrimage.

Your absence on the Food Board since your diagnosis has been quite concerning and the wealth of that board has greatly decreased during your slow convalescence. Please keep all of us informed of your progress. Mother inquires about your condition daily.

Yours,
TulaneLSU
