I read something recently about upper echelon universities like Tulane recruiting more under-qualified students to apply so they can juice their numbers and get that acceptance rate down.

Amazing numbers.

I really don’t care for diversity figures ane I really really hope that Tulane isn’t trying to skew the diversity meter by selecting kids based on color or gender or music taste or weight.

Admission is open to anyone so pick the best and brightest or I’ll just send my kid to a place that does.

Now it's starting to make sense. I'm kind of surprised you didn't graduate from SUNO.

50% are probably from Long Island or Crown Heights.

How is it not a good idea to get the best of the best from varying races? Im sure Tulane would love to get more of the Asian population that goes somewhere like Stanford. Or blacks that go to ivy league schools. Ive met a lot of black people in the New Orleans area that went to Vandy, Im assuming these are the type of people they are looking for. Tulane is a lower choice for a lot of these people.

So the competition gets keener and the main concern is to cheat the system for certain people based on their skin color.

Thats not what that says.

If you are white and from Louisiana, you are not getting into Tulane unless your GPA is at least 4.0, ACT at least 30 plus other talents such as music, athletics, etc OR your mom and dad are wealthy and/or connected.

Duke is for kids from New Jersey who couldn't get into Brown. Tulane is for kids from New Jersey who couldn't get into Duke.

Proud Tulane alum, it was my #1 school and has opened doors and given me opportunities that to this day I am thankful for. Flagship educational institution of the state. Also the largest private employer in Orleans Parish.

Tulane could have been Vandy if they stayed in the sec or maybe even duke if they won big. the sec should invite them back and Arkansas could get a conference win

Duke is a better school than Brown. Duke is elite.

FWIW, I also rate Brown as elite. Its business school is not a joke.

Why would I want to graduate from Tulane with $150k+ in debt when I can get the same degree from any in state school debt free?

I don't see the point

Do NOT attend Tulane if you do not have academic aid or rich benefactors. It's a bad deal otherwise.

I guess I am wondering why anyone would want to go there.

There's no engineering program, and the remainder of undergrad programs strike me as "meh" at best.

Obviously theres always going to be a segment of the population with more money than sense, but I just have trouble finding any sort of redeeming economic value in blowing $150k for something worth half that.

That's a lot of money in application fees. Are they still $50?
