Would be the 2nd and 3rd person to die on that stretch this week. Really sad events.

just terrible...no way to find your way out with no visibility and a boat that wasn't likely upright.

id bet that they didnt have any of the watertight doors closed either.

Prayers!! Lost a good friend back in 1990 to a similar incident in the Atchafalaya!

Rumor is they lost steering and ran over anchor chain and then anchored ship. That boat is too too heavy and if it got caught sideways in that current nothing was going to stop it from flipping and sinking.
Sucks real bad. I know the guy that owns the boat and he’s just a small outfit with just a couple boats. No way he will be able to recover from this.

I'm assuming they weren't on a 12 hour shift then? Or are there 2 crews on the boat usually? Well I'd assume not as there was only 3 guys.

Are you just pulling info and photos off of facebook?

Since one guy was in a bunk, I would assume he was a wheelman off watch. So you had 2 wheelman and one deckhand. This boat stays local most of the time so they may have just been doing some trip or assist work.

No. I know Stan, the guy that owns the boat and I’ve been chartering this boat for years. I know the boat very well.

Oh I know, just a scary and unfortunate situation

No big deal; the info you posted was all info posted on Facebook, so it didn't suggest some close knowledge to either the boat or the operator.
Did you know the boat well when it was under prior ownership?

quote:from a NOLA.com article
The barge the tugboat was attempting to maneuver appeared as if it "got caught up in this current," which then "snatched that barge and tried to pull it around to the starboard side," Campana said. The New Orleans Fire Department said the boat sank following a collision near the 4600 block of Patterson Drive in Algiers.
Sounds like they might've lost control sliding out the point and ended up broadside to the current. This river is crazy right now

Nola.com is simply trolling the message boards to write their story.
